Why shouldn't they take disc golf seriously, regular golf is riotous with fat old men in atrocious styles chasing little balls over environmentally disastrous lawns in specially designed vehicles.

I maybe fat and old but I shy away from golf carts. I walk all 18 holes, at least certain executive courses. Still, that's about 3+ miles. Come to think of it, that's pretty much my only means of exercise lately, except for some brisk walking.

I believe Guy mentioned something like changing his shaft, (I mean golf club shaft, OK?) from stiff to regular in a different thread. I am about ready to "graduate" from regular to senior shaft soon. Sad but true....

I am getting a nice chuckle...don't get between a man and his favorite pastime. Since I don't play either game, it is telling to see the generation difference between the two endeavors. I am getting ready to do my favorite pastime, flyfishing with the 1st sunny day and the march browns hatching.

'flyfishing with the 1st sunny day and the march browns' new gained respect for a serious sport!
Next weekend we're backpacking three days. Just blew the dust off my GM-5 for the pack.
I bet our 'sports' choices are as varied as the replies here...a good thing. Me, I'll leave the golf club to those who wield political power and the CEO magnate types

Depends on what you shoot. I like my 70-300G a lot for pseudo macro shots of flowers of foliage, but for wildlife/birds (I'm not talking about zoo pictures here) 400mm are the absolute minimum. Even on an APSC body, I've found 400mm is often quite short.

Thanks for the reply.

If you were to go for 100-400, would you still keep the 70-300?

Thanks

Yes, because in my book those are two very different lenses. The 70-300 G is compact enough that I can take it on a vacation which isn't primarily about photography. The 100-400 GM is something that I'd only take with me, when my main focus was on photography.

Yikes, just noticed when I pre-ordered that it doesn't start shipping until July 31st....
I get impatient with 3 day shipping...lol

If the FE 100-400 is anything like the EOS 100-400ii then Sony instantly becomes a contender for the ring. Not in the ring yet though, that will take a FE 500mm.

I never had the mkII canon but I shot the original EOS 100-400 "Dustpump" for years, it's a great focal length and i can't wait to get my hands on the Sony.

Thanks.

Now you have convinced me to keep my super sharp 70-300 and yo go for the 100-400.

Earlier I was thinking of selling off 7-300 to fund the 100-400.

Thanks

You're welcome.

Again, if you need/want 301-400mm, the 100-400 GM will probably be your only option in e-mount for a while (before anybody nitpicks, the 70-200 GM and the 2x TC to me isn't really an option). As a long walk-around option, a good copy of the 70-300G is very nice, while weighing around 50% of the 100-400. If you can afford it, keeping both is probably the best choice.

I'm scheming over the FE 100-400 G as well.
IF reports come out that it's IQ with FE 1.4 TC is as good as the gold standard EOS 100-400ii with 1.4TCiii then I'm in.
Still undecided on the alpha9 though, pixel density is not there. 30mp sensor would have helped
But just seeing the FE 100-400ii is in the Sony pipeline tells me there is no doubt that 500mm is forthcoming, just has to be if Sony really wants an admission ticket to the big sporting and wildlife events.

Is 100-400 doomed going by the response here?
1389 grams weight quoted elsewhere...is it with hood and lens foot? Is the foot detachable? Looks like a Canon like design where the whole thing won't come off, just the foot will come off.

Sony page specifies 1,395 g (Without tripod mount).

On this photos is hard to see if the colar is there or not...

That's good if RRS will make a replacement foot that is arca-swiss compatible eh
