They really ticked all the boxes with this release.
Bravo Sony!

It's amazing, though I'm glad I went ahead and grabbed an A7rII rather than wait. While I would gladly take one, no need for it and there's no way my wife would allow it.

Interested to see if the stacked sensor tech hurts DR.

Great looking camera - silent shutter is something I definitely want. But I don't really need 20 fps. And I'd rather have 42mpx than 24mpx. So I'll hold off to see what the new A7rIII offers.... or whatever it's called.

Chris

For me, I would have been happier if they make an E mount version of the A99II, 20FPS is an over kill, for me. 10-12 FPS is more than what I need.

If the electronic shutter truly operates without visible rolling shutter then there's absolutely no need for a fast mechanical shutter since it'll only be used for flash photography.

+1, we have almost a calibration free cam for life

If it's truly a global shutter, then yes. But if you do any indoor sports then an non-global electronic shutter is a non-starter. It's the same with my E-M1ii, even though the rolling shutter effect is negligible it's unusable for indoor sports.

It's not a global shutter but based on Sony's description it's likely fast enough to avoid visible rolling shutter. There shouldn't be any issue with indoor lighting because the light-band artifacts you see on your Olympus are due to a slower sensor read out. But of course it remains to be seen exactly how fast this new sensor readout actually is, and also what "anti-distortion" Sony claims actually means.

Finally we have competition to the E-M1.2 with regards to AF!

So BSI sensor as well, now if Sony would just put that sensor in an A7 body and maybe drop the FPS down to 10 and sell for under $2000 and call it the A7iii, I'd be more than happy to pick one up as a replacement for my A7.

Apparently the screen is a touch screen as well.

I'd be interested to see if it's better implemented than the one in the a6500 which is used for AF point selection, and not for image review, pinch to zoom, etc. My best is more 6500 than Panasonic or Cano EOS M like.

This is my dream camera. Maybe I'll get a used one in a couple years.

Also the ethernet cable slot has to be the stupidest retro port put into anything in 2017. Should be USB-C.

I'm also in the camp that doesn't need 20 FPS. For me personally 8-10 is more than enough. When I used the E-M1 II, the 18FPS was more a once or twice novelty use thing.

One thing I noted was that it seems to use the same push to turn dials like the a7rII and not the preferred to me clicky one like the E-M1 or the X-T2.

Most impressive thing here is the mindset of Sony. They really went after a very large part of the Pro market which trickles down to the hobbyists that have these needs. Instead of building a hobbyist camera that Pros are forced to adjust too. The upped their game plan. Thats very impressive

So this presumably is the first, true pro-grade mirrorless aimed at the likes of D3/4/5 and 1DX cameras.

What a beast, wow.

I still would love to see an A-mount like body with E-mount. I prefer the mount for many reasons but sometimes the body is a bit harder to hold with my bigger hands. Other then that, it looks like a solid performer. Don't think I will need 20 fps and curious to see if there are any image improvements over the A7RII.

the a9 grip is a bit bigger than the a7 mark 2 series, maybe that helps
