I decided to start up the Four Mile Trail for sunrise to see what would make itself available. Leidig Meadow was nice and green, and led up to first light on El Cap (and parts of the southern rim that I didn't know lit up at sunrise in spring). I was hoping for some blooming manzanita, but you can't have everything. C&C welcome and appreciated!

Tim,
Really like this and the park looks nice & peaceful.
Some nice light on El Cap.
You've re-enforced my desire to do some early morning hiking there

Thanks for posting

Thanks Dan! It's definitely easiest right now. Sunrise is still at a relatively late hour, and there isn't much in the way of snow below 6,000 feet. Sunrise in the valley is usually pretty limiting for first light, so new perspectives spiced it up some!

Great job! I was just in Yosemite, and really wanted to hike up 4 mile trail.

Love the perspective and the light.

I'm wondering about the dead trees, however, on the valley floor. Was it drought-related or due to a pine bark beetle infestation?

Thanks for commenting Rolf, Tyler, and Lawrence!

Lawrence: The dead trees were caused by both bark beetles and the drought. The natural defense the trees use to keep bark beetles out is sap. If the trees don't have enough water, they are more vulnerable to the bark beetle's attacks.
