p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · LR Tethered Capture: Intermittent "No Camera"

I was experimenting with tethered capture in LR CC. The Camera is a Nikon D3. When the camera was connected, it worked just fine, however it would occasionally give me "No camera connected". If I unplugged the cable from the PC and plugged it back it in, it would reconnect, but would eventually give me the same thing.

The memory cards were out of the camera.

I tried every USB port on the PC, with the same results.

It was a cheap USB Cable, and I am not even 100% sure where I got it.

Are there camera-specific drivers I need?

I don't have another USB Cable, Camera or PC to try, at the moment.

You should have at least a few known good cables (and good quality ones) at your disposal. It's very possible that this is your problem, but Lr is not your best choice for tethering either. There are better options out there (NikonCapture, CaptureOne). As an additional backup connection option, I also keep a good quality Thunderbolt to USB3 converter (Kanex https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BBQQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) around in case any or all of my built-in USB ports crap out. I've been using these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZR196FM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 right angle adapters on the ends of these USB cables - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013QN3OZU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - which I believe are the exact same cables as the TetherTools but at a fraction of the price.

The first rule is to have backups of everything and to keep multiple known working copies so you can test against them. It's hard to troubleshoot without. You can also get a USB port tester to check all your USB ports.
