p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Anyone shot at St. John's?

We have a wedding in St. John's, Virgin Islands next month, and we are having a brutal time hearing back from the Parks people about if we need a permit or not. All of the regulations listed on the website seem to show that we don't, but we want to make absofreakinglutely sure we are not going to show up and be told "no."

Anyone here shot there before? thanks!

Are you talking about St. John (no s)? The one beside St. Thomas?

If so, we've shot there. No issues. There's hardly any people. Where are you trying to shoot?

yep, that's the one. I like adding S's things. Good to know. Based on everything I read, it seemed we were good...just was hoping for some verification. Thanks!

Interesting reading:

http://www.photoattorney.com/permit-required-photography-public-lands/

From Section 5.12 - "For the purposes of this part, portrait subjects such as wedding parties and high school graduates are not considered models, if the image will not be used to promote or sell a product or service."

Wedding is at Trunk Bay, but we are getting a rental car so we have free reign and will be there for 7 days. I will check with him to see if our time there will intersect!

I think using images in a portfolio are ok. It is technically promoting a service, but not in the sense that is usually meant...it's not like the images are part of some major advertising campaign. They are just a random image on a website.

Yeah, the place is amazing. Crazy story is that we will be shooting a wedding on the beach two years almost to the day from when my wife and I were standing on that very beach saying that we knew we would come back there some day. Someone saw our photos from that trip (wedding on St. Lucia) and booked us. We are so excited and ready to knock it out of the park.

I've shot at Trunk Bay many times. If it's a bigger wedding with chairs, it'll likely be at 5pm or later (after the beach has closed). The staff leaves at 4:30 anyhow, and people rarely bother you unless you try to unload a truck with gear near the beach and they don't know you. But yes, I used to live nearby and still work there all the time. Let me know if you have any questions and I'm happy to help!
