All I want is a bag just to hold a camera, keeping it away from public eyes when I'm not actively shooting.
Like just two SLR bodies with a lens on each. That's it. No laptop, not electronic devices.

Ready to go.

But do these kind of bags still exist these days?

A good example was the Lowepro Mini Trekker Classic. Something that was close to a book bag as possible.
I mean there's the Amazon Basics SLR/DSLR but it's so strappy and I question the build quality.
On the other side of the spectrum there's all these hipster looking multi-purpose built bags.

One option for a simple day carry bag is to go outside the box and use other types of bags like tackle bags or satchels. For example:

Frost River

Yeah, could be an option. Pricey though.

I sometimes use a regular bag or my Osprey Stratocast backpack, and put a neoprene wrap on the on the camera. Works quite well.

Yep, my travel bag is an Osprey Talon and I have my cameras / lenses in neoprene wraps. Don't see the need for a camera specific bag as they are not comfortable to use and are overly expensive for what you get.

Get a small Safrotto satchel. This is a better made Domke copy. I've used Safrotto bags for years and they're excellent.

Get a Rothco messenger bag from ebay and an insert to fit your needs.

Cheap and discrete. Although I seldom use it, when needed it's invaluable.

It's good to see that camera nuts - myself included - aren't the only dopes paying way too much for their bags.

Aren't most of the messenger style bags like that if you just adjust the inserts?

These are closer to what I'm after. Something nice and cheap.

I use an old khaki-colored canvas bag with a strap. Bought at a war surplus store. Totally inconspicuous, yet holds my 7D2 with 100-400 II plus kit lens, map and water bottle.

I ended up buying a Think Tank Photo Turnstyle 10. Enough room for a 5D Mark III with L plate and an L prime (probably a normal or wide zoom as well). Really don't like carrying weight when traveling and this is perfect.

Some of the bags mentioned: are they compartmented to prevent lenses or cameras from rubbing against each other?

I also used a diaper bag when I had my 5x7. Cheap, perfect fit, and who would look inside?
