I like the colours of these, a little different to your run of the mill flies in the garden.

I thought it was a tachinid but apparently it doesn't have a row of bristles on the meron (hypopleuron).

Who knew !

It doesn't (the row would be shaped like a fan), so what family is it?

Dung flies! Probably Anthomyiia sp.

They seem to be restricted to the far East and far Southeast of Australia.
