I mostly use 24-120. If I need wider, should I get the Nikon 16-35 AFS VR? or may be a much less expensive one 20mm?
On top of it, I heard a rumor of replacement for Nikon 16-35 AFS VR.

The 16-35 is an excellent lens, and there are always good deals on them especially here in the B&S forum.

It's sharp with a great FL range, and the VR is very good. The only problem is distortion and that can be easily fixed in post.

I have had this lens for over five years now. I agree with hijazist - I have found it to be a very good lens. Also, the VR is pretty good - I have gotten some very good images handheld at 1/4th of a second. I also have the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. When I have a tripod and the time, I will use the 14-24mm lens. But, when I want to go lighter and faster (or in places where tripods are not allowed), I will use the 16-35mm. The 16-35mm might be up for replacement (as implied on Nikon Rumors). But any potential replacements probably won't be available until sometime this summer. Do you need a lens like this now, or can you wait? That would be what I would be asking myself. Good luck with your choice!

I've had 3 16-35, not because they were issues, it was because of system changes or thinking something will replace it. It currently resides in my bag and will stay there, even if I go through a system change again.

Take a look at the Tokina 11-20...I have it an absolutely love it. One of the sharpest aftermarket lenses out there!

Yes the Tokina 11-20 is a DX lens but it will cover FX from about 16/17mm to 20mm. So there's some crossover versatility there.

Yes, you can use any DX lens on a full frame body, and I am sure results might be acceptable, but I suspect soft corners compared with their FX counterparts. The Tokina 16-28 is designed for full frame and not much more expensive.

I don't get why someone would get a full frame body only to buy DX lenses for it.

dx lenses crop the ff to dx size, so you would lose pixels.

Some DX lenses still cover the FF image circle (like the Tokina 11-16 @ 15-16mm and Nikon 35/1.8 DX) but they perform quite poorly there, and only are acceptable at close distances with wide apertures. It's possible, but not something I would ever recommend investing in.

I have full frame bodies. I bought the Tokina 11-20 for my new D500. The Tokina was useful for a 20mm-ish FL on FF when I didn't carry my 14-24. I liked the 17-20mm range of the Tokina so well on FF that I bought the (somewhat smaller objective) Nikkor 17-35 F2.8.

So now the 11-20mm Tokina and 85mm F1.4 Nikkor live together in a D500 bag which gets little use (I prefer my FF D5/D4s bodies). However, I thought the idea might be useful, if only temporarily, to other readers.

The 11-20mm Tokina has a lot of glass (82mm filter) for a crop lens. Likely, the lens' designer decided over covering the crop format was one way to make a sharp WA lens. That also means, at the more tele end of the zoom, it also covers FF.
