the main issue for me here is the BG oof fence piece.
Does it bother you?
How strongly does it detract?

Other feedback welcome as always

Scott

What a cutie pie! I love the oversize hat jauntily sitting off to the side of her head, and the zoo graphics complete the scene. From a technical standpoint, the fence to her right and the tree behind her head do attract unwanted attention. Maybe blur those objects? Also, maybe a tighter crop?

Cute trumps technical in the family album more times than not.

The fence itself doesn't bother me too much, but the tonal value of the specular highlight off of it did. Through some tonal changes to the BG vs. subj.

It does bother a bit, seems like an easy clone job. Great image otherwise.

The fence looks like its about to ram her in the back. Can you blur it more?

I like the fence. I guess it can be looked at in a few different ways. I am a long time "picture-taker" trying to become a "photographer" so please bear with me. In this shot shouldn't the intent of the image guide what to do with the background? The child is captured wonderfully but what would you say about the wood if the kid spent countless hours playing on/around that fence? What wood (pun intended) you say if this picture was titled "Kid In Natural Habitat"?

She's a cutie Scott.

Both the horizontal and vertical post behind her head are bothersome but not deal breakers. Of the two, I think Monika best described the major concern.

But, for a family picture, who's going to complain or even notice?

Best,

Bob

I think if you cropped at, or just above the top of the hat the image more rapidly draws you in. In doing so, background for those that mind will be less distracting.

Aside from the compositional issues already addressed, I think this is a great shot Scott.
Maybe go with some of Kent's suggestions on the tonals to reduce the draw?

Consider selecting the background and changing it's gamma and color to better separate the subject?
