I see both of these advertised new for $299.

https://www.adorama.com/ca430ex2u.html?gclid=CPX48cr_ydICFUtNfgodjUAJEw EXII

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1165079-REG/canon_0585c006_speedlite_430ex_iii_rt.html EXIII

It seems to me that the newer version would cost more. Can anyone tell me the main differences between these 2 models and why they are priced the same. Is one model better than the other or does it just have different features?

As I stated in another thread, this relates to me finding the best flash choice for my new G5X.

Thanks

Big difference is the inclusion of wireless radio triggering

Then why would they be the same price? Does the EX II have more power?

No. Same power. The model number 430 corresponds to their Guide Number = 43 m.

Most places don't have the 430EX II any more. It's been replaced by the 430EX III-RT.

The III is also smaller. For the same cost I'd rather have the newer model for the long term.

is the EX III backward compatible? My current system has a Yongnuo YN622-TX trigger on the camera with an off-camera 430 EX II mounted on a YN622C transceiver. I am looking to expand the system and wondering if I need to start over and get a YN-E3-RT or something like that to trigger the flashes, or whether the YN622-TX can control the III as is, or with a YN622C transceiver.

430 ex 3 is the best flash I have ever had. In my system...I use it on camera as fill and as a controller for off camera flashes (radio) I set it in group mode and can control up to 5 off camera flashes from the camera. They do not need to be Canon flashes...my off camera flashes are Young 600exrt, Godox 360II(attached to a phottix laso receiver. The control is all seamless. I recommend the Youngnuo's as cheap slaves (about 110 each) They actually have much better recycle time than the Canon 600 rt's (from personal experience). The 430 ex 3 is also very light, unobtrusive, has good recycle time and is very reliable.

The 430 ex3 will not control you 622 receivers...but will totally jive with the laso, which is cheap at 79.00. Beauty of this is you no longer need a transmitter on camera.
