Very well done Brian. I don't remember what you have done to soften your flash, but great job ~ Ron

Really terrific shots, beautiful soft flash. the best compliment I can think of is it looks as If there were no flash at all !
That video is something else, I've never even seen that before. Thanks for letting us in to that special place.

Thanks all for the comments - appreciated

Ron I still use one of my DIY coke-can diffusers with 2 sheets of diffusion gel over the front.

Lovely shots, Brian! Can you share details of your diffuser?

Thanks
See https://www.flickr.com/groups/macroviewers/discuss/72157594312315664/ for details of the diffuser. As mentioned above I now use diffusion gel sheet instead of kitchen towel over the front but the difference is not huge.

Thanks again for the comments - appreciated.

Jarmo I'm holding the flower the bee is on with my left hand and resting the camera lens on that hand. This enables me to shoot a quick sequence of shots as I move the camera in towards the subject. I always have to do some tidy up editing after as they always move their antennae and proboscis.

Interesting, detailed close-ups. I second how your diffused lighting enhances these images.

Always nice work coming from you LordV. Our of curiosity, how many images do you normally stack for something like the images above?

sleepwalker for active subjects like these it would only be about 2 to 4 shots used in the stack.

Brian,

An excellent set. I think the first two are carry propolis, probably for lining brood cells.
