p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · What did I do?

I was taking photos at a taekwondo belt testing graduation ceremony yesterday. Had my camera set at ISO 12,800 while the lights were dimmed during the black belt ceremony. After the lights came back on I forgot to change my ISO back to Auto and took this photo of the head instructor and his wife. The shutter speed was 1/1000s at ISO 12,800. Is this an artifact of the fluorescent lights?

Almost definitely as the bands are following the direction of the shutter. You seem to have found one of the shutter speeds that reveal the pulse frequency of the ambient light.

Daniel - thanks for the reply! I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how I messed up such a seemingly simple photo!

I know fkourescent uses higher voktsge, but i dont bekieve higher frequency.
my theory woukd be that someone else with a camera used a flash at the same time as your shot. probably has something to do with not being in hiigh speed sync you get the shutter leaf effrct..

if you post tothe lighting forum, you woukd probably get more specifics.
