p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Geese, etc.

As I pulled into the parking lot of the Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge a flock of at least 1,000 snow geese flew over at about 500 feet. The sound was incredible and the entire sky was filled with waves of them. No photos of this as I was not ready. Later while standing at the edge of the East pond a smaller flock went over and those are included in this post. The snow geese are heading north now so this may be the last I see of them for the season.

I also saw this non native big bird take off from JFK Airport which is just east of the East Pond.

There were plenty of canada geese also heading north.

This is a view of the east pond looking North towards Jamaica Queens. The A Train (Subway) trestle with signals and buildings are in the background. A canada goose and morganza are in the foreground and illuminated by flash as they are in the shadows of the trees as the sun goes down.

Very cool shots for those snow geese and I've never seen a snow goose as large as in shot 5. Nicely done Morris.

Nicely done Morris. Lots of birds in the air too. I suggest keeping your moth closed when you look up... ~ Ron

Yes it's a delight to see the large flocks. I've got to shoot a large flock wide angle

Lovely work Morris, the iron bird looks like it was a real easy click. I think #1 and #6 could benefit from a 16:9 crop ratio.

Nice set, Morris and good to be able actually see the geese. When they fly over our place, they're so high they're just specks in the sky.

So, I'm curious, is this their normal migration time? Seems like everything is about a month earlier in far-western NY this year.

And those invasive birds, tsk, tsk..

Thanks for posting.

Thank you Kim,
Yes they tend to head north the beginning of March. What is early is our flowers and I think my pair tree is about to bloom. Will be pritty if it dose that and then we get snow.
