Hi,
I scored a couple of great seats for a Cubs game this summer.
I Would like to bring my Canon 1d Mk4 and 100-400 zoom to the game with me.
Does anyone know if there are any restrictions to bringing photo equipment to a Cubs game?
It would be a long way back to the hotel if they won't let me in with the camera.
Thanks,
Silverbird

Cameras/Video Equipment: Visitors are welcome to bring video and still cameras into the ballpark; however, tripods are not allowed in the seating areas. Recordings may be used for personal viewing only. Any other use, distribution or commercial use is prohibited. Fans may not distribute any copyrighted game information without permission of the Chicago Cubs.

I have taken my 7D and 100-400 to Wrigley without issue.

I had no issues bringing in a 300 2.8. Wrigley has the LEAST restrictive camera policy I've seen at a venue. Be sure to bring something wide too - just capture the whole scene!

A good tip is to print a venue policy in case you get any push-back from a gate attendant or usher. Just in case...

I can't speak for Wrigley, but I've taken my 70-200 to Twins games many times. Security has never said a word. So could be that MLB hasn't wanted to crack down on it. YAY!

I see tripods are a no.
Wonder if monopods are allowed?

I haven't had an issue with mono's at Fenway, just be cool about it - stay out of aisles, etc. check with seats on either side of you. I've found the ushers at the back of the park (behind center field) to be as accommodating as possible, so long as you stay off the staircases.

Wow, that's a pretty lenient policy. Much more so than almost any MLB venue I've looked into. Good luck, get some shots.

Grew up there but left when I was 18. Never had the opportunity to bring a camera to the park.

As far as MLB goes I've had my 70-200 at Miller Park without any issues about 8 years ago. Haven't been back with anything big since then though.

On a side not baseball related, I went to a monster truck show with my son and his scout group and they had signs up all over saying no cameras with detachable lenses. Pretty broad.

FYI....
Went to the game at Wrigley last week.
Got plugged by security for trying to bring in a "professional" lens.
Had my 100-400 L mounted on a 1D MKIV.
Told me I had to drop it off at Guest Services and pick it up after the game.

bummer to hear... i guessed policy enforcement isn't very consistent given the responses from others.

you didn't bring a hard copy of the policy to show security as recommended by avianscott?

The policy doesn't describe what a "professional" lens is or if it is or is not allowed into the ballpark.

I'm sorry to hear that...

I've carried my 300 2.8 inside Wrigley Field on multiple occasions without issue. I suspect that various security people aren't consistent in what they allow into the park. Sometimes it's best to try to enter the park by another gate. It is a shame.

Glenn,
I'm curious if your 300 2.8 lens was a white Canon or a black Nikon?
The Canon 100-400 zoom is white.
I also had a white aftermarket hood attached to it.
Wonder if the white lens deemed it a pro lens to the security people?
Next time I try bringing it to the ballpark, I'm switching to the black hood and getting a black lens coat/cover.
A month ago, I brought it with me to Comerica Park in Detroit with no issues.
