Thank you! It most certainly was an amazing trip!

Truly outstanding! Tender and beautiful and harsh as well. Everything is top notch and shows the beauty of these birds and where they live. Also shows the emotion of what it must have been like to experience this.

Thanks for your kind comments! The Falklands are a very special place, and it would be difficult NOT to return from a trip there with some images that one could enjoy for years to come .

Great shots and informative videos Mitesh. The fighting penguins remind me of the Three Stooges. ~ Ron

Thanks, Ronny! The interaction between the penguins is really amusing at times.

Wonderful and beautiful images! What a treat to visit such a location, and have the skills to take advantage of it. Images 1, 3, 4, 9, and 10 stand out to me, although all are great! I love your processing on image 3. Thanks for sharing these.

Hi Keith – thanks for the comments and your picks. Glad you enjoyed them .

Great stuff and always makes me want to go back and try for the "shots that got away".
Good info for the Falklands but there are alternatives to camping and certainly some other excellent destinations.
Don

Hi Don, while there of course are alternatives to camping, lodging is very limited in many of the locations, as you know. Also, when booking at the last minute and/or on a tight budget, camping becomes the only option remaining.

Super images Mitesh...I enjoyed all of them. Thanks for sharing all the juicy details of the logistics and planning. The Falklands is a great place to knock off a lot of penguin species without paying the mega bucks to go on a boat to the peninsula. Also it looks like you have a lot more control over what and when you shoot compared to the boat trips.

You did forget to add one thing to the logistics though....how does one manage to book a seat on the plane next to the world's most famous bird photographer?

TFS
Geoff

Thanks a lot, Geoff! Your observations about a land-based trip to the Falklands are spot on. As for booking a seat next to a famous bird photographer, I guess that's just serendipity .

nicely done, miteshbhai, loved the mood and the interaction with the subject. what a trip it must have been, with all the harsh conditions that are not even affecting your photography one bit.
Bravo.

Many thanks, KD paaji! Looking forward to your Costa Rica and Botswana pics this year!

Terrific set of images! The videos were interesting too. It looked like the shooting conditions were not ideal with all the wind.
Thanks for posting the images and sharing the information on your camping trip.

Dave

Thanks a lot, Dave! The conditions weren't ideal on most days, but it is those types of conditions that make for unique images. Reflecting on my work, I think I should have done better in capturing the harsh weather.

Well, I'd been working on the premise that "It's all about the light". These prove that's only partially true. Light and tones in these are fantastic and so complimentary to the subjects. However, your presence among the penguins and your eye in framing (pre- and post?) really makes these standout images.

I appreciate you including all the logistics info though I doubt I'll ever make it there. I can't help but wonder if by camping, it enhanced your 'feel' for the timing, various scenes and some of the penguin behavior that you might not have been as much in-tune with
...Show more

Thanks so much for your extremely nice comments, Kim! Your observations are spot on, and you're very keen to pick up on such things! I definitely think camping added to the experience because it forced me to be out all day long and keep exploring. There was no nice warm cabin, hot coffee, and soft bed to retreat to . So, in a way, that did help to really get to know the place and to figure out where and when the best shots could be found. I also like to think that the penguins got to know me and came to accept me .

What an amazing adventure you had Mitesh. Thanks for posting the videos, they really give a sense of the habitat and conditions of the Falkland Islands, and the lack of fear in the wildlife.
I've always enjoyed your vision and composition in your images, and this series is extraordinary... I truly enjoyed each one.
Masterful work my friend, and huge congrats on another very well deserved FTOW.

Kirk

Hey Kirk, always good to hear from you, sir! As always, you are too generous with your compliments! Glad to hear that you found the images enjoyable. Your comment about lack of fear in the wildlife is exactly correct, and it cannot be understated. As long as we visitors remember how to behave in these special locations, future visitors will be able to enjoy the same experiences. Close encounters with wildlife, including having a peek into the nests with young being tended to opens up a whole new world that many of us have never seen before, and it is those types of moments that we wish to capture and remember.
