Nice results, due in part to the 1DXII, nowhere near as good results on a 7DII.

Hmm 500 with 2x...oh, and a 1Dx2....I think I missed THAT announcement (or just not paying close enough attention )....those three play together really well as you now know. Congrats on some great photos and now that summer is coming this week make sure to stay hydrated in the blind!

If these are degraded quality then you have got to be a happy camper Ron. Super feather detail

Thanx Morris. I think the IQ is very close to the bare lens, but cleaned up a litter better than I expected.

Very nice. They turned out quite well. I used to use the 500 + 2x often, but started using the 1.4x more frequently due to focusing speed on some bodies. May have to revisit it for certain subjects.

Thanx Mike. The 2X did work well on stationary birds.

Hi Ron...

Very nice set of photographs. Beautiful soft light and tack sharp details. You should use that 2X TC more often.

If you don't mind, I'd appreciate knowing what brand of popup blind you are using.

Thanks in advance.
Tom

Thanx Tom. The blind is an Ameristep Outhouse Blind. You should be able to find it cheaper than at Ameristep's site though. It's easy to set up and take down, but it's not made to stand up inside, so you will need some type of seat.

Ron, I think these turned out really great. I use my 1.4x TC regularly, but only use my 2x TC rarely. Based on your images, I may want to rethink that. Thanks for posting these.

Thanx Keith. I haven't tried the 2X for BIF yet, but I may this spring.

Super nice work with the 1000mm combo Ron. I'm still always amazed how good of a job Canon did in making the MkIII 2xTC work with the MkII superteles (especially the f/4 ones).

Hey Ron these really look very well to me. I don't let too much hype get in the way of what it takes to make an appealing image. For the light you were in your results are quite fine. Just like any long lens the proper technique and understanding of what goes on with DOF is important and the good photographers do a fine job with them as you have here.
Not so sure that the image would be any better or worse if the shot was 'bare' and the crop were larger with that great body 1DX. Get 'em

Thanx for your thoughtful comments Karl.

Thanx Robert. I like the blind. You will need a stool or chair because it's not tall enough to stand erect in, and it's small in area, so there's little extra space. You can get a bigger blind, but it would be more cumbersome to carry. It comes with a cloth carry bag. The bag has straps and can be carried like a backpack. The one "defect" it has is that there is no opening at ground level, so I can't lay on the ground and shoot. Bottom line is that I would buy it again if I had to replace it.
