p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · X-Pro2 with 23F2 WR or X100F??

My current setup is X-Pro2 with 23WR, basically the same as X100F. I never change lenses ever because I am not a professional and do not need a large arsenal of lenses. I am just a simple photographer. So my question is does it make sense to "downgrade" to the X100F? Used values for the X-Pro2 is about the same price new for a 100F. In your opinion is it worth it or should I just keep going with my current setup. I would like to know what the Fuji community thinks about this.

Things I like about X100F

- Leaf Shutter (Even though I never use flash....so idk why I like this)
- smaller
-Built in ND filter (I enjoy shooting a lot of long exposures)

It really depends a bit on whether you are one that goes with 2 bodies at the same time. I do. I keep the Sony RX1 always around my neck while the XT-2 is on a Black Rapid strap. The 35mm equivalent is one of my most used focal lengths. The other would have the 56/1.2 on it. Sometimes it is only the RX1, when I am just out for my own shooting fun. I love its small size. If your usage is like mine, the small size is an enormous benefit.

My only concern is if the 23/2 lens of the 100F will be up to the 24mp sensor. It should be, but you never know till the reviews hit. I had the same concern around the RX1r2, which turned out to be invalid. But it is possible.

I forgot to mention my x-pro2 hasn't got much action lately because I am shooting my M2 and Canon AE-1 mostly. So I always have one film and one digital on me when I shoot.

If you don't foresee yourself buying other lenses in the future (i.e. all needs are met by the 23mm focal length), don't need the WR, don't need the faster AF, haven't been using the X-Pro2 lately anyway, would use the built-in ND filter, and want a smaller camera, I don't see why not.

X-pro2 + 23mm as it is small enough for me and in case you want to try the other awesome lenses later.

I would keep the x-pro 2. Great camera and you have lens options. You just never know about tomorrow. Have you tried using a 56/90/55-200? Me personally, I could not just shoot with one lens. I have a 35 and a 90 with a xp1. Love it!

I have shot with the 56 1.2, 35WR, 35 1.4, 16 1.4 and I always see myself coming back to 23 because I just enjoy that focal length and don't really need anything else. I occasionally do photo shoots for people (just for fun) that's where digital comes in. But for my own stuff I mostly shoot my Leica M2 and Canon AE1

if you're happy with just the 23mm lens, i dont see why not jumping into the x100f

pro reasons i can think of
-charge through usb port
-leaf shutter = silent
-can get the TCL if you want to shoot 50

con is that you cant change the lens which sounds like not an issue for you

I would probably make the switch if I were you then. My reasoning would be the smaller form factor and built in ND filter.

However, consider that the 23/2 WR lens on the XP2 is a better lens than the 23 lens on the x100 series, both in sharpness and autofocus. So if those two things aren't critical to you, I'd switch for the convenience.

I have been watching YouTube stuff on the X100F and people have been saying the Software is the same as X-T2 and X-Pro2. Wouldn't that mean the AF algorithms are the same? If the AF won't be the same I 100% will not be doing this and keep my XP2

I think the lens in the X100F is going to be the limiting factor for AF speed; note the differences in AF speed of various lenses on the XP2. Undoubtedly, the XP2+23/2 focuses faster.

I've considered making the same change you're debating, but with the prices of the XP2 where they are, I don't think it really make sense unless the smaller form factor is a huge consideration or if you just prefer the rendering style of the X100 lens. I fall into the latter ... I really like the X100 lens for its faults.

I used to shoot X100S enjoyed it. Sold it to get the XP2. But I am addicted to the AF speeds of these WR lenses. If I am not getting that then I will keep my setup.

^ I briefly played with the X100F at a local Fuji function (they also had the XT20 and GFX to play with) and the venue light was low, the AF felt as good as the XT2 + 23 WR that I played with in the past and as good as the XT20 + 50 WR the had at the venue

I've owned all previous X100 series camera and the X100F still managed to feel faster in AF, very similar to the X-Pro2 and X-T2.

I'm afraid that I might also end up getting a X100F but will primarily be using it with the WCL as I prefer 28mm now a days, unless Fuji announces the X-E3 then I'll just get that instead.

I used to own Fuji x100s then moved to the xpro 2. Both are great cameras so you can't go wrong. Personally i prefer the xpro 2 as i wanted more flexibility to use other lens but i also want to preserve the benefits of having a small camera so when i don't want the hassle of other lens i just take the 35 f2.

I would stick with what you have its more flexible in the long term. In fact you might want to consider the 50 f2 as this along with your 23 f2 would make a great little combo, i think experimenting with some other focal lengths you will really see the benefits, you don't need to accumulate a massive selection of lens but the 23/50 combo will be excellent.

1. Reselling the Xpro2 will cost you money.
2. X100F is not even weather sealed.
3. Fixed lens sucks, IMO. Versatility wins.
4. Wait for reviews and see if the strengths/weakness suits or affects you
5. XT20 may also interest you.

I completely agree, why downgrade and loose money.

I will probably not get a 23mm for my Fuji set-up, but then again, I have an RX1. If you like the idea of a fixed lens camera in that focal length, I'd suggest a used RX1. Give it a bit of research, and you might acquire a gem.

In my opinion, It's not worth changing. However, if the size/weight matters to you, but lenses not so much, then maybe you should consider renting X100F to try for a few days?

Quick update. I ended up getting the 23mm 1.4 and man I must say I do not think I am getting the 100F anymore. But I still enjoy shooting my Film Leica instead.

I got a x100F in and love it EXCEPT - If you are near-sighted, the diopter adjustment on the x100F is not as good as the one on the Xpro2. I can adjust my Xpro2 enough to be able to see without my glasses, while on the X100F I cannot.

X100F
Diopter adjustment : -2 to +1m-1

Xpro2
Diopter adjustment : -4 to +2m-1

Xt2
Diopter adjustment : -4 to +2m-1
