p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Northern Shovelers in Arizona on February 3, 2017

Accidentally stumbled upon some Northern Shovelers or maybe I should say, found some cooperative Northern Shovelers at Gilbert Water Ranch on February 3, 2017.

Canon 7d II w/ Canon 500mm f4 II and Canon 1.4x III and Canon Angle Finder C.

simply divine, Mike. Did you also have a kayak in Gilbert ? how could you get so low? I have been there and I could not get so low?

These are great, Mike; wonderful colors, backgrounds, and perspective (#1 is my favorite--nothing like seeing a shoveler shovel).

I had the same question as KD, then noticed that you used a right angle viewer--must have been fun (and maybe a little muddy!)

I found an area of the pond that was level with the water. I placed the lens foot on the ground, just in front of the water. Sometimes I would place my hand under the lens foot. I attached the angle finder "C" and scanned the water line and found the subjects. Using the AF allowed me to keep the camera low as I lay on my stomach.

I have the frogg toggs water resistant jacket and pants and they get muddy, but not me.

Super work Mike, love that low angle makes all the difference between an ordinary shot and a terrific shot. Love that last shot.

This is a super set in great light Mike. If you had been any lower, you would have been shooting the feet - from below ~ Ron

Thank you. I almost didn't go out that day, because it was so cloudy. But fortunately, the clouds parted and I had some nice light just before sunset.
