You can also often get onesies from any of the real tile supply places as well.

Yes, some will true up a broken slab and cur it to the size you want, there are lots of odd sizes at kitchen counter places. The issue is that they are heavy. Tile is lighter, but you will have the cracks where they join.
I have several granite counter tops out in my shop / studio, I picked them up for $20-$80 each. They make a very stable counter that does not vibrate easily, which is great for sensitive digital scales.
