A New Year's sunrise from a lovely location on the northern California coast. Comments, criticism, advice always appreciated.

Greg

Edit--minor changes as suggested by Gordon.
Edit--horizon fixed.

There's a lot to like here: the sky, the rocky texture, the angle of ocean between the rocks.
My suggestion to make it better would be to darken the rocks. I suspect they have been brightened too much in processing and would look better darker. I'm talking a minor change, not much.

What a way to start the new year, I also found myself shooting on New Year's Day. It was a pleasure too see the sun come up on day one of 2017 and now I've seen what the west coast looks like now. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Gordon; I see what you mean, and added an edited version. (Thanks!)

I'm really enjoying this scene and the processing, but I would suggest straightening out the horizon.

Beautiful landscape and of course, the horizon is tilted.

Thanks, Matthew and Brian. A learning experience for me--I made the mistake of applying a profile correction, problematic because there is no profile (appropriately so) for ts lenses. I initially chose an alternative profile, EF-14, which made things worse--not only was there a bit (~0.2 degrees) of tilt, but the "correction" for barrel distortion created some bowing; now fixed.

Hi Greg, long time lurker here

Seems the edit has a little more contrast in the foliage which gives more color snap too and I like it. Such a refreshing scene/vista.............lovely man!

Best to you in this New Year

Thanks so much, Karl. (I had to start from a new RAW conversion after messing up the original profile correction, and ended up with a bit more contrast in the foreground).

We visit this part of the coast every New Year--invigorating and inspiring). And, back at ya--hope your year is filled with great light and great images.
