I just bought this lens and had a chance to take photos in Melbourne City. I feel this lens is good but it is not as sharp as I expected. Probably my expectation has been raised by performance of 105 1.4E and 70200 FL lenses.

These look really sharp to me...did you use tilt at all or just a shift on the images?

This relative new lens could be deserved with an own image thread, or not?
If not, a mod can combine it with the three other PC-E lenses in their thread.

D810, full tilt down at close distance, 2,5s, f8 (should be f11, or f16) ISO64, tripod.

D810, shift down a bit, 8s, f16 ISO64, tripod.
Incredible sharp from edge to edge. Worth every cent.

Bought it mostly for landscapes. Outside it's grey now and my NiSi filter system hasn't been arived yet.
So i wet to the empty church this sunday.

Just out of curiosity, why f/16?
One of the benefits of a tilt shift is to use lower f/stops and then shift the focal plane to bring everything into focus.. I know, it's counter intuitive, and it took me a long time with my PC-E lenses to get comfortable around f/5.6.. which is where I try and stay anymore with my D810's... Sometimes when I forget, f/11 but that's an error on my part... Also, the camera makes a difference. When I had my D700 I would shoot at f/16 quite a bit with them, but then all my reading on the D800E and then D810 had me rethink it all.. Diffraction, fat pixels on D700 versus D800 pixel density etc... I'd think with 19mm you would be able to shoot almost wide open and achieve good front to back sharpness with the right tilt... Might be worth experimenting. That's half the fun, watching it all suddenly pop into focus with a tilt...

Just food for thought... As you of course can do whatever you want... You paid the price of admission...!

As far as starting a separate thread just for this particular lens, I vote no. You tried that with the 24-70mm and it was basically a thread of one... I'd just add to the 24/45/85mm PC-E thread as it's a small universe there already.

Shift to get the focal plane in focus or tilt? I enjoyed my 24 pc-e for years and am now using the 19. Shift has been used a lot but tilt not so much. Lots of dof with these short focal length lenses.

Shift doesn't do anything except shift the image circle around.
The reason I believe a lot of people haven't used tilt that much is because IMO the axis is set wrong from the factory by Nikon. So many landscape photographers change the axis so it's parallel with shift. Then you can shift down (or wherever), get close to the foreground, focus far first, then focus near with the tilt, repeat again until it's just right. That's the good thing with the 19mm.. correct? , you can easily switch axis relationships without a screwdriver.

Here:
Tilt movements enable the photographer to tilt the plane of sharpest focus so that it no longer lies perpendicular to the lens axis. This produces a wedge-shaped depth of field whose width increases farther from the camera. The tilt effect therefore does not necessarily increase depth of field—it just allows the photographer to customize its location to better suit their subject matter.

Well worth studying plus other stuff on the internet. Now there's lots of tutorials.

An other. Maybe a little bit overcorrected in perspective. Used shift up only.
