Thanks again Mitesh. Yeah, the 5th shot from the 1st set is particularly noisy, so I was struggling to find a good balance between the noise and the detail. At the back of my mind has always been the Sony which probably would have been better by about 2 stops. But I guess you can't have everything - you have to settle for either better reach or less noise, but not both.

I realize that, unfortunately, it can be tough or impossible to ETTR in low light in the field when you need to keep your Tv up. Truth be told, I have very few 1DX files that I would say I'm happy with at ISO 6400. At that point, I might be more inclined to drop the ISO and Tv, and try for artistic blurs!
I voted for your Bosque thread because the compositions and use of light were masterful, IMHO. The noise didn't detract from that....Show more →
