Any interest?
I love the PL 100-400mm so I'm curious!

The 12-35 f/2.8 and 35-100 f/2.8 are getting updated as well. I saw them announced with the GH5 but I'm not sure what has changed. The 35-100 looks like it's going to cost less than the original version.

Could definitely be interesting, the f/2.8 were no slouches to begin with.

The Mark II's are being updated for full compatible with the Dual IS 2 tech out of the box (the Mark I's are getting FW updates) and cosmetic changes (full black matte finish instead of the greyish color on the 100-300 and the purplish color on the 12-35/35-100. The 12-35 and 35-100 were already weather sealed, but the 100-300 and 45-200 are getting sealing as well. And from what I've read they're getting improved iris control for smoother aperture changes in video mode. Optically they should say the same.

The 12-35 and 35-100 should still be fine if you have the Mark I's but the 100-300 looks much improved. I'm considering it if I do go for the GH5. A 12-35/35-100/100-300 would handle all of the zoom needs. IQ wise, I have no doubt the 100-400 will be better but it's also much bigger, much heavier, and $1,800 vs. $650.

I had the Lumix 100-300 lens several years ago. It is indeed a very nice lens for the price ... but it's not in the same league as the PL 100-400 lens.

Thanks for the info, I'd love an optically improved 45-200 if they could keep the size the same. Maybe one day I'll try the 100-300 and see if it's noticeably better.

I sold the 1st gen 100-300 when I added the PL100-400, just sometimes I just don't need 800mm effective Plus for some walk-around the 100-300 is interesting. I'd rather see the 50-200 first though=hurry up with that one!

You should check out the Oly 12-100 PRO. It's a seriously good and reasonably compact lens with 6.5 Dual IS stops on the Mk II.

I really like my 12-100. It's so good that it makes me think I should get a second E-M1.2 so I never have to take the 12-100 off, even when I want to use a different lens .

Mitesh ... are you not finding the E-M1.2 noise a little objectionable? A lot of my Bosque images are quite noisy because of the low light level and I was using Auto ISO. ISO 6400 is not good!

Hi Bobby,

I haven't used it in the field in low light. I've shot around the house at ISO 3200 mostly, and with ETTR, I'm ok with the noise at full image size. I realize that, unfortunately, it can be tough or impossible to ETTR in low light in the field when you need to keep your Tv up. Truth be told, I have very few 1DX files that I would say I'm happy with at ISO 6400. At that point, I might be more inclined to drop the ISO and Tv, and try for artistic blurs!

I voted for your Bosque thread because the compositions and use of light were masterful, IMHO. The noise didn't detract from that.

I agree with you, my 12-100mm is the sharpest zoom lens I have ever owned in this or lesser range.
It is mindbogglingly sharp even wide open at every marked focal lengths from edge to edge and corner to corner. I compared it to my 12-40 f/2.8 lens which is an outstanding lens, but pixel peeping at 100% the 12-100 is even slightly better.
I could not be happier with this lens!

I did not read the above about the 12-100, repeating to myself, I did not read the above!
So many lenses (I want) and so little money!

You only live once, Robert, and you can't take the money with you to the next destination .

Thanks again Mitesh. Yeah, the 5th shot from the 1st set is particularly noisy, so I was struggling to find a good balance between the noise and the detail. At the back of my mind has always been the Sony which probably would have been better by about 2 stops. But I guess you can't have everything - you have to settle for either better reach or less noise, but not both.

It's hard to do for flocks of birds, but Neat Image pluging for Photoshop can help clean up the background while leaving the subject for separate noise processing.
