Sampling - first 3 using HDR Efex Pro from the NIK suite. Normally don't go there but I like the different, away from norm, look. Last is essentially OOC with Kodachrome 64 preset applied in LR.

Thanks for looking,

Bob

And Ben, looking at the exif I did have the 14mm with me - I misspoke.

2 and 3 are great.

I could see a bit more black in 2 (although it's nice as-is too) and a conversion for 3.

Good HDR work here Bob. I especially like the PP in 1, but 3 is my favorite image. I think you could go a bit darker in the interior for 3. The tell on HDR is when things seem a bit too bright.

The exposure here looks much better and more realistic. I would like to see the color version at these levels if you have one.

No problem...and you touched on the turn-off of HDR for me, many go way beyond reality and my appreciation. Guess I'm hung-up on near facsimile imagery.

Thanks Ben,

I'm still put off by the window fill - don't know quite how to improve that. Done by tone-mapping a single image, bracketed series might improve. Which now raises the question of I might may be able to electronically bracket the RAF in-camera, will check that later.

Nice job on the conversion, Bob! I generally lean mono, especially with this subject matter, so I much prefer it over the color version. And I don't think the windows are an issue at all in the mono version.

The only problem I see in the windows of the color version is the sky color seems off.I do love those wood colors though.

Yes, very hard to do maybe as you say, you need to blend more images. I suspect you are using an image that has recoverable shadows and blown or near blow sky. I would look at the image with a good sky for ideas.

Glad you chose that image to make adjustments too as it's my pick out of the OP set.

Mono is definitely the strongest IMHO and works fantastic this this subject. Your second edit looks very nice.
And that's coming from a color guy!

In the color version, I don't see the sky problem but rather the trees look a little wonky. Your mono conversion removes this issue completely.

This is a really neat find. I don't think I have ever seen an abandon church in my entire life other than the old ones up in Cades cove which are preserved for historical reasons.

Another options for the wonky trees would be to try some selective desatting.
