I just sold all my Sony stuff, but there was a kludge to make it work with cables. I used two adapters, the Sony adp-maa and the Vello hsa-csc:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/913654-REG/sony_adpmaa_multi_interface_shoe_adapter.html

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/765451-REG/Vello_HSA_CSC_Hot_Shoe_Adapter_to.html

The latter has a standard pc socket (that works with the old Sony/Minolta hot shoe). The A7-series has the new multi interface shoe, so you need the ADP-MAA as well. Ugly, but I made it work.

Another option, indoors, is to use a small flash, like the HVL 20, to trigger the strobe optically. I also used that method. In the end however, it was too much pain and fiddling, not only with the strobes, but with AF and ergonomy (or lack thereof), so I sold it all and got a 1DX mkII and took a big sigh of relief

I have Calumet robes as well. The easy way is to get some cheap radio triggers from Amazon.

I use PC-to-hotshoe adapters with my Paul Buff strobes.

https://www.amazon.com/Pixel-Hotshoe-Adapter-RX100II-Speedlite/dp/B01LVYOZQY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1484598514&sr=8-3&keywords=pc+hotshoe

If your flash is really old, you should not do this, since flashes that expected mechanical synch contacts often used higher voltages than the semiconductor "contacts" used in modern cameras. You could damage your camera. If that's the case you might want to consider making your Calumet strobe a slave.

MMI is a pain (thank you Sony), but most hot-shoe accessories work—even when hanging halfway out. I usually trigger with PW, but the Nikon i-TTL cable is also effective. Only contact with the center pin and edge ground are needed for studio strobes.

I went wireless, in order to bypass any hi voltage situation and the convenience of wireless.

Surprised they (Calumet Genesis 400) turned on. Got things working. Have the PW mounted on top of the camera (Sony A7R), have a PC sync cable from the PW to the hotshoe adapter that's connected to the FLASH (Canon 550ex... Yes that's old). Forgot to turn on Optical trigger on the Monolight and now things work. Now I need a longer PC cable. I did order some new Cactus V6 triggers for the HSS so let's see how that works out
