Not any great light lately with winter rain mixed with snow. AF seems very good and same with IQ. Hummer was too close for AF. All about 50% crops.

Nice bokeh on Hummer shots.

Looks good. I have always loved the 400 on my E-M1. Used it for a couple of years befor Metabones developed the AF firmware, naturally all MF and wide open. Get the right light and the pair could deliver!

I finally got a chance to try out the mark 2 with metabones adapter and the Canon 600f4 II on slow flyers(Sandhill Cranes). The AF was abysmal to say the least. Very slow to acquire and even the frame rate slowed down(set on mechanical at 15fps). Hopefully and update comes for the adapter.

Why would you mount a Canon 600L II to the E-M1 II? I would think you could do much better mounting that lens to a 7D II + TC.

Mainly just to see how well it would function. There's been a few comments around here from people wondering how the adapter functions with various lenses. I thought I'd give it a try and report my findings.

There are no doubt limits as to what Metabones will be able to do with their reverse engineering. So many lenses and so many different cameras! They have done amazingly well so far. I personally would love to have the 100-400 II do at least S-AF on the E-M1 as fast as the 400/5.6. It may never happen, and used 7D2s are getting easy to find, just not a big fan of the 7D2.

Thanks for running your test! I've been curious about adding the Oly to get even more range with my 500 f4 II but didn't want to shell out the $$ until someone else had

Are you sure that a Metabones software update will solve some of your AF acquisition issues or is it just too much to ask the Oly to do?

The camera is new so maybe an update will be forthcoming but who can say?

One of the biggest problems Metabones has faced is how to deal with the whole latency business in having a mFT body comunicate with a lens that was designed to work on a specific brand of DSLR.
From their home page:
"AF-C and video autofocus may have unsatisfactory AF performance and/or accuracy. This is a limitation inherent in DSLR lenses, which lack the low latency required for making many fine movements in rapid succession during AF-C and video focusing."

What are you going to try next Tony?

I saw the 400 5.6 L on buy and sell. Have you looked at the Panasonic 100-400? How large is it compared to the 100-300 version 1?

The pany 100-300 is pretty small compared to the pany 100-400, and a lot poorer IQ IMO.

Thanks! I am thinking about buying the Panasonic 100-400.

I will have to see if it is worth keeping the current 100-300 for convenience, or whether I upgrade to the newer 100-300 after we see what that looks like.

I agree, if the new lens is a lot better than the original it will be compelling option.
