I'd appreciate any thoughts people have on why some high ISO shots look fine without noise reduction while others are beyond help. Here are two at ISO 6400, IMO the cheetah cub looks better. These were the only examples I found, others at this ISO were with my EM1 Mark 1 so I didn't post.

A couple of factors in play here...

First of all, exposure. If a shot is the least bit underexposed and you have to bring it up, you will see the noise.

Second is the size of the image. If you need to go big, obviously the higher ISO will show more noise.

Test shots are the best way to determine how high you can go. I have my GH3's and G5's set to 3200 max. Beyond that they're not too usable unless I need something small.
