You're probably being quite generous Rick. It was quite a windy and rainy day, an effort for most people to get around town.

You have captured the essence of the day. Her expression is about what mine would be.

the expression makes it
the angling adds to the rush to get out of the rain/frame

I *like* that grimace!

And I like the pops of color too! And the angle.

i.e. nice shot!

Forgetting this image, much art and photography can be upsetting to look at. Perhaps not your taste which of course is ok.

I don't find it "pleasant" to look at either. But, I think it does convey its desired message rather well ... "Cranky ol' bitty don't like the rain (cold & wind)."

+1 @ the diagonal adds tension to her tension ... and is a bit unsettling for the viewer expecting a normal horizon. All of which play into the "unpleasant" mood for both the subject ... subsequently, conveyed to the viewer.

Truth be know, if someone does find this image "pleasant" to look at, it might suggest that Steve missed the mark. The fact that it does have "not pleasant" emotive reaching the viewer is a testament to its effectiveness in message delivery conveyance to associate to the mood of the subject.

Reminds me a bit of walking down the pier in Norfolk winter @ wet, windy & cold ... nasty stuff. YUCK !!!

Yup, imo ... "Unpleasant" is a rather fitting word for this one.

Thanks Kent for reading into my mind. Another thought, the metaphor of the "red" coat setting off alarm bells.

No "mind-reading" wizardry here ... i.e. you put your mind on paper for everyone to read.
We just have to take the time to read what you wrote.

Learning to read Shakespeare is a learned skill. Learning to read Scripture is a learned skill. Learning to read poetry, music, etc. is a learned skill. So much the more is reading well crafted visual messages. When folks are able to "read" what you wrote ... that usually means you've written well.

How well we write (verbal, visual, audible) and how well our audience reads (sees / listens) is a key component to conveying our messages. Sometimes the disconnect is on the creator of the message. Other times it is on the receiver ... and sometimes, the two just aren't on the same page, nor talking the same language.

Love this one Steve!

Gotta have the color - that red and pink/purple have waaaay too much eyegrab appeal.

Ok, THAT confirms that I've been hanging out here for too long as that just made total sense to me.
Which if you think about it is kinda scary.

I had not commented on this image because it just wasn't working for me at all but after reading Kent's comment as well as Jeffrey's, it all makes total sense to me now why I felt that way.
Which of course changes my entire perspective of this image.

>another door swings wide open<
BAM!
I get it!

Nice one Steve! Ya done learned me sumthin more with this one.

Dave
