I had my first good photo ops with a couple of these beauties yesterday. Here are a few of my captures.

What a nice early Christmas gift from Mother Nature! Big congrats on getting some real nice shots of a most amazing bird. The first and last are my pix picks. Hopefully this is just the first of many opportunities.

You guys make me feel lucky that they were almost daily visitors to our feeders most of last Spring and Summer. Nice shots Doug ~ Ron

Great image like the contrast with the moss. I've only had one sighting of these birds in my parents woods upstate NY. By the time I grabbed my camera they were gone.

Thanks Eric. We saw them while on a walk with our grand daughter. It was awhile before I went back with my camera gear, but there were in the same area, so hopefully I'll get to see them again.

Yes, I feel very fortunate with the encounter. I was pretty close while he worked on the stump.

Well, you're off to a bang-up start! I like all these but especially the very first. What a beautiful portrait that is!

Thanks for posting.

Wow! What sharpness! :thumb;

This is one woodpecker I haven't had much success photographing. I think I got only one picture and that too at a feeder. :-(

Yes, lucky you Ron. I've seen them occasionally, but seldom with photo ops. We had one yesterday outside the kitchen window on a snag for about 20 minutes, poor light though. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks Don. The location was pretty good! Mossy PNW trees present great perches.

Thanks Amit. I was lucky that he was at near point blank (MFD) range and in the light!
