If I was shooting Canon or Nikon I would be full frame for sure. They don't have an extensive apsc lens lineup, and once you have lenses that covert the full 35mm frame, you don't gain much by having a crop sensor...

Now I'n shooting Fuji and loving it. Though I do miss some of the full-frame creaminess (so I lug around a rolleiflex as well...)

Shot the last season (43000 clicks) with the Nikon D500 (APS-C), after a few years with the Nikon D800 (full frame).
The 12x12 albums looked the same even though the D500has "only" 22 megapixel instead of 36 mp.

Had to adjust my lens setup a little bit, a 85mm gets uncomfortable long on a crop body. Really influenced my shooting style.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the autofocus system, complete coverage of the frame from left to right. And there are cross type sensors on the outside. LOVE!

On the full frame D5 the same autofocus module ist only a bunch of af fields in the middle of the frame - but the smaller sensor is completely covered. LOVE!

Havenīt shot a single shot with the D800 after I got the D500...

Did I mention that I LOVE the camera?

What lenses are you using now? I'm thinking of going the same route. Ditching my D750 for the D500. Just received the D500 a few days ago and I'm loving it so far. Don't have a wedding until the middle of January so I hope to work out the kinks by then.

As I normally shoot 12h+ weddings, Iīm quite (gear-)weight conscious.
With the d800 I used the AF-S 18-35, 24-120 f4 (for more than 80% of all images) and 70-200 f4.
For portraits I used the AF-S 85 1.8 and extension tubes for ring shots. I never was satisfied with the sharpness and focus with the 85... Only Nikon lenses

With the D500 I just substituted the 18-35 with a 12-24 DX lens, the only DX lens I have. The 24-120mm is too long now for my taste, but I couldnīt convince myself yet to get the new 16-85 as replacement. The mediocre (on the D800) AF-S 85mm 1.8 performs brilliantly on my D500 now, while the old AF 50mm 1.8 has ome focus problems.
But shooting 85mm on a DX body gives you 135mm focal length - which means you have to move back. And during receptions, normally people will walk into your frame... Note to myself: Get a new 50mm...

I think Iīll buy me the 35mm DX and a new AF-S 50mm before the season starts.

I know you are weight conscious, but the Sigma 1.8 zooms have gotten a lot of love from other D500 shooters.

Good call on the 35 1.8g DX lens, (though I prefer the 35 f/2).

I bring my Fuji X-T2 to weddings as a 3rd body. As I get more comfortable with it I find myself reaching for it more and more throughout the day. I dont think I would ditch FF completely though.

Shot my last wedding of the year with two Fuji XP2s. LOVED it for the most part. A few quirks to work out but it was pretty nice.

1. Battery Life
2. Low Light AF performance
3. Continuous AF performance

It really forces you to slow down, which can be good or bad at times.

I use both DX and FX. It all depends on what I'm trying to accomplish (or if I am tired of lugging gear). I'm usually wielding a FX as primary with DX on a strap or in a shoulder bag

Used to be the FX bodies had much better viewfinders, AF, and tones, but with the D7200 and later, there are really no differences unless I go looking or want to do lots of ISO10,000 and above. My GAS includes a D500, but the finances are not right to entertain it yet.

I just recently got the D500 and at my New Year's Eve wedding aside from portraits, I ended up using the D500 most of the day. It is such a superior camera to the D750 in so many ways: buffer, handling, the body. The files are amazingly good. I used a 20 2.8D, 24 1.4G and 58 1.4G on it most of the day.

If I ever switched to Nikon, I'd seriously consider adding a D500 to the bag.

The 7D2 never really appealed to me in Canon's lineup. I don't really know why.

The ability to add 50% more reach would be great.

The 7D2's fine — we're keeping one (had 3 at one point). It's a 5D4 in crop body. The AF mode selector tool (a collar rounding the joystick) is far superior to the 5D4 magic-third button. Can't understand why that didn't get added to the 5D4. A pity.

The D500 in clearly next-gen in APS-C. A great achievement.

Always the allure of a D500, 7D2 or 6300/6500 is the AF points out to the edge.

One of the second shooters that works along side of me uses a D7200.

Files look great.

I also use a lassie who shots full-frame Canon. Her files definitely have a je ne sais quoi look about them but then she also uses a 50mm 1.2 which renders majestically.

Gear wise, I think it's the glass that gives the image more of a feel than the cameras (if the cameras are modern enough). I know that giving much more kudos to the glass is nothing new but not so long ago cameras were significant as they didn't seem to be on a level par. They all seem to be more than capable these days.

I used to be an evangelistic FFer but it doesn't bother me much anymore.

I switched from Canon to Nikon in 2007 when Nikon introduced a pro full frame body with the D3 and the 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. Great deal of difference in picture angle between the 14-24mm on a full frame camera and the Canon 1d Mark III (1.25 crop) and the 16-35mm f/2.8.

Unfortunately at this point in time Nikon has only updated its 2007 autofocus system on its D5 and D500 cameras which is a limitation for low light weddings (which seem to be the majority). The D5 is a great camera but the weight when mounted on a good flash bracket with the 24-70mm lens and a speedlight is a lot to carry around for 8 or more hours.
