Thanks, Lance. Much appreciated! 16-35 is my most used lens, even though I try to avoid the 35 mm end.

I shot with this lens for a number of years, although no longer own it (sold it in favour of the Tamron 15-30, which is significantly sharper and faster, albeit much heavier.) Nonetheless, in my years of ownership I took a number of images I really like. It served me well.

I'm very interested in this lens. My 20/1.8 ended up in Schwabacher's landing and this lens might be a viable replacement for me. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I don't have the 20 f1.8 so, I can't really comment on the 20 f1.8 other than I know it is an excellent lens from the samples I have seen and the reports from respected owners and reviewers.

If you need versatility and VR, then the 16-35 is it, or the Tamron 15-30. However, if you only use 20mm, then just get the 20mm. Having said that, the 16-35 is an excellent lens if you get to know it's few slight foibles.

I loved that 20mm. But I found myself sometimes wishing I could get wider, or switching to my 35mm.

An awesome lens but I'm thinking of upgrading and am torn between the Tamron 15-30 or going with a 2 lens Zeiss setup (15 + 21), primarily looking for more contrast/color and flare resistance that I feel these other options may provide with the added benefit of even more sharpness. I would add weight (and lose convenience of zoom if I go with Zeiss), and would also have to buy a new filter system so it isn't an easy decision.

If anyone has experience with these options any further insight would be much appreciated!

I had all together at the one time, the Zeiss 21 f2.8, the Nikon 16-35 f4 VR, Nikon 14-24 f2.8 and the Tamron 15-30 f2.8 VC. I sold the Zeiss 21 f2.8 and am thinking of selling the Nikon 14-24 f2.8 and possibly the Nikon 16-35 f4 VR. For me, whilst the Zeiss was a great lens, it was just too much trouble to manually focus it. The Tamron is overall a better lens than both the 16-35 f4 VR the 14-24 f2.8 for my purposes. However, that is me.

I considered the 16-35 against the Tamron 15-35 just last month and settled on the 16-35. It's just so much nicer to handle than the Tamron 15-30 let alone two primes.

Your photos are so good with that 16-35 I'd personally not bother changing it!
