I list a starting price so as to give clients an idea. Most clients that see no pricing assume you are too expensive for them.
Beyond that I custom quote everything. Before anyone gets detailed pricing information I send a questionnaire that asks for all the details (contact info like names and home address, venues, timeline.) It also asks a few questions like how they were referred to me, what they like about my photos/style, whether they're interested in an engagement session, books, photo booth, etc. And the final and most important question - What is your budget for wedding photography?
Only armed with all that information can I properly give pricing. Essentially, I have three tiers of pricing that are ready to go, but I can go totally custom if something requires it.
There's no reason a Saturday in September should be priced the same as a Friday in April. I like shooting in loft spaces and outdoor ceremonies. So I don't feel bad about charging more to shoot in a church or hotel ballroom.
