I made a trip down to Pfeiffer Beach (Key hole beach) for the light through the arch. I only took a few shots of the arch but the goal was to explore more of the beach (but you know, you have to kinda take a shot of the arch while you're there). A little exploring and I found differents scenes to work with and actually the beach holds quite a bit more interest to me than just the arch.

C&C welcome,

Jason

Sweet job here Jason. I find there are very few darker Beach scenes like this fine that for me works. I think you got the perfect balance here between light and dark. Good job!

What Jim F said. That wave splash makes this image. AND the image is well exposed throughout. I like how you controlled the highlights. Would love to know how you managed to "subdue" the light around the sun.

I do believe the horizon is slightly tilted, but this is superb work.

I'm just now glancing at your site for the first time too; really impressive stuff!

I think it is actually barrel distortion rather than a tilted horizon.

Good catch guys! I think it is a bit of distortion/tilt. I'll go back and fix it.

Thanks Jim! I'll be down in SoCAL during the holidays, might have to hit you up for some spots to sneak away from the family haha

JimKied, I blended 2 exp for the sky. I use a sony a7r so most of the sky highlights were fine in 1 shot, I basically blended a darker exp just for the sun and just eye balled it with a soft brush in PS. The sun was also behind some clouds so that helped as there was less blown out areas.

Great shot and fantastic execution. Super clean processing. The only thing that I can suggest would be to mask out the halos on the edges of the rocks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think in processing the web file, I over sharpened the rocks. I'll pay extra attention to that area in print. Thanks Artur.
