This is a beautiful shot!! Do you mind if I ask how much of the "ambiance" is the lighting, and how much was post? Specifically the shadows of the background? Dodge & burn, or just the way the light fell?
Wish I could fit a 400mm f2.8 into my budget!
ha, it started out exposed for the highlights on the car on a dark day, so in RAW it looked flat and underexposed and got me started to do a little creative editing, given this shot had been catching dust in Bridge since September 2015. There used to be some detail in the distance where the road turns right, faint brush and a little wooden structure. Ran that through SilverEfex pro 2 and found as a starting point one of the dark Film Noir setting with a heavy vignette that dropped all that detail. It was far too dark, but fit the mood I was trying to enhance. So I moved the center of the vignette to the car itself (off center), adjusted a zillion sliders until I liked the black and white.
Once back in Photoshop, I looked at the color again and decide to combine the two versions (luminance channel blend). Presto. Yeah, the real light wasn't that dramatic, but the depth of field, the detail in the dandelions in the grass and highlights n the curbing, all that is there. You don't really want that lens to have such a vignette all the time
similar shot, same day, same light but 2 stops more ISO but shutter speed faster, much less tweaked but heavily cropped.
