I still use some Eneloops that are from 2007.
The date of manufacture of Eneloops is stamped on each one, but it is subtle. That's how I keep tabs on mine.

You must be using some older cells. Panasonic bought Sanyo around 2009. )

All of my batteries are labeled with date first put in use, so they stay in sets. It seems around 4-5 years is their useful life.
Any different observations?

You can see here accelerated life span testing of Eneloop cells:

http://www.paulallenengineering.com/blog/accelerated-cycling-test-1st-gen-eneloop-vs-4th-gen

The latest will survice 200 discharge cycles before you see any degradation.

Here are more tests comparing Japanese and Chinese LSD cells:

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?392229-Japanese-Vs-Chinese-Eneloop-Cycle-Testing-Results

You can see that Japanese cells last significantly longer.

However Eneloop pro cells were beaten by Turnigy cells:

I always buy them at Costco, and have been using them for 10 years or so. My older ones still say Sanyo.

Has anyone used the Maha Powerex Precharged Low Discharge 2600mAh AA Batteries, How are they compared to the Maha Powerex 2700 mAh AA NiMH?

With my wedding photography I have made extensive use of AA NiMh batteries as I would go through 20 or more in a day. Now with the higher ISO settings possible with my current cameras I use less flash output and 12 AA will last me throughout the wedding (except for the group shots where I use a Quantum Qflash rig).

I fixed the battery problem overall by getting the Quantum Qflash setup and not needing to rely 100% on a speedlight with its AA batteries. I do use a AA battery pack as that provides more voltage to the speedlight and that reduces recycle times.

I have found little real world difference between brands in terms of durability. I am now buying Powerex as they provide enough power and have been the longest lived. I get nowhere near 200 or even 100 recharge cycles with my batteries and I use the slow charge setting on the Maha charger. I tried the Sanyo Enloop batteries but could see no difference in performance with my own shooting and until recently they were a lot more expensive to buy.

I have learned not to rely on the usual AA battery testers or the Maha charger to know whether or not a battery is still good. I have had a battery that when tested with a ZTS Pulse Load tester show as 80% after a full charge and it was enough to bring down the voltage of the other 3 batteries in series that was getting to the speedlight's electronics. With NiMh I am starting at a disadvantage with their lower voltage as compared to alkaline and so it takes very little for the electronics to performing erratically.

Now every month I test my NiMh batteries after charging with the ZTS and toss out the ones that do not come in at 100%.

Is it okay to charge the Maha Powerex batteries in a cold environment? my office does get cold at night and sometimes I charge batteries overnight
Or is it a better idea to charge in my house overnight?

The batteries will intrinsically get warm while charging, so it shouldn't be a problem unless your office gets seriously sub zero.

The 4th generation Eneloops (e.g., AA BK-3MCC) have a recommended charge temperature range of 0-40°C. At the high end you may have issues with the extra heat from charging.

I'd assume that other cells are rated for a similar range. Does your office reach freezing?

Regular Eneloops are the best you can get. With a Maha charger like in the image above, they will last you at least 10 years and more than 500 charges.

We rotate ~ 70 AA/AAA Eneloops (along with sleeved AA's in C & D shells)
over the last 10 yrs. I think I've tossed 3 in all that time. They're amazing!

And with the Maha, there is no guesswork for which batteries are bad. It tells you what charge it is holding and if they are bust, it will tell you clearly.
Mine are from 2009 and all are going strong, the lowest capacity one is currently at 1865 mAh's! The rated spec is 1900 mAh. And these are just the basic Eneloops, no need for the "Pro" or "special" editions.
