When I visited Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge yesterday afternoon I expected the usual busy outing. As I arrived I saw numerous flocks of geese and ducks taking off from the East Pond and enjoyed the sights as I parked and set up my equipment. After the short walk from my car to the East Pond I saw the last flock of canada geese blast off and then it was very quite and empty. I walked to my faverate spot planted my tripod and waited and waited. Occasionally I'd see something fly by or see a flock in the distance. Eventually I noticed there was a hawk working the pond and that explained what was going on. The hawk's photos will be another time, these are a sample of what I did see and photograph.
