p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Louisville Palace Theater

This theater opened in 1928. The architect, John Eberson, wanted people to feel like they were in the natural world--hence the artificial night sky. The sky has stars positioned exactly as they were on opening night of this theater.

Just outside of the main theater, there is a vaulted ceiling with 139 sculptures of the faces of historical figures--including one of the architect.

From a photography perspective, controlling the exposure and the colors is challenging.

Those are stunning photos of a beautiful theater!

I'm originally from Louisville, and I attended hundreds of movies when it was known as The United Artists Theater.

They've done a magnificent job of restoring it to its original beauty. We always loved the "stars in the sky" motif.

It also helps that Fourth Street has enjoyed a revival. The restored hotels and added entertainment have certainly helped.

Great job!

Yes, very gorgeous photos. You do a very good job on those difficult interiors. I also enjoyed your Calif. mission series.

Glenn,

I look forward to your posts and wonder what delightful interiors you will find on your next trip. The wide shots are marvelously executed and would certainly stand on their own, but I feel your eye for the details elevates your work and tells a more complete story of the architecture. Thanks for sharing these with us.
