Guess what I gave myself for my birthday this year...
Image quality is stunning and the focus is really lightning-fast. I'm very happy. Sorry for the boring test shot, more interesting pictures will follow (hopefully )...

Had some time for testing around friends & family on the weekend. I love the way this lens renders!

Some landscapes from the 70-200 showing that it isn't just a "one trick pony", it is amazing at all focal lengths, all distances and all apertures, it is simply one of the best lenses that Nikon has ever produced. Sharp edge to edge, great colour rendition, bokeh and overall IQ.

Have you ever taken a picture that's not sharp, Lance?

+1

@Lance: is there any chance you can give us some super quick tutorial what app you are using for scaling images for web and also what exact setting? Your images are very consistent in sharpness not to mention bang on colours

Thank you, Douglas.

My "non-sharp" photos end up on the cutting room floor.

Thank you, milkod2001.

I shoot RAW and use Capture One Pro 10 to convert to 16 bit TIFF. I think much of the credit for the end result goes to COP 10 RAW converter, but of course there are the great lenses and D810 and D500 to start with of course. The output from COP 10 is superb, IMO.

In COP10, I adjust the foillowing when and if required: Saturation, Exposure, Highlight/Shadow, WB, Lens Aberrations, Horizon tilt, Keystone, Masking for dark/light area and WB imbalances, etc. I then save as a 16bit TIFF file.

I then use Photoshop CC and do any tweaks that are easier/better in Photoshop, using plug-ins like Noiseware for noise reduction, lassoing certain areas that may require local adjustments, clone stamping, etc. I then reduce for web view. At the moment, I am doing most images at 1800pixels on the vertical side as this fits all UHD screens 3840 x 2160 pixels. With older lower res screens I was using 1500 pixels or 1200 pixels, but they look like postage stamps on the new high res screens. After reducing for web view, I then sharpen using Power Retouche plug in for sharpening, which I find is the easiest and most effective sharpening tool. I use very low amounts like 0.1 radius and high "reduce bright halos" and may do that once or twice depending on the lens used and how it looks.

That's it in a nutshell.
