Ya, they legitimately said I need a MacBook Pro 2011 or higher( which sucks because I got rid of my barely used 2015 MacBook Pro about a month ago and got this ) I don't understand why as I know this machine is completely capable but it's just what they require unfortunately and yes have to have the MacBook Pro as I will be going to and from class everyday for 7 months.
As far as price goes I feel very reasonable as this is the 512gb storage version and I have yet to see any of those around 1250$ On eBay or Amazon ect; 256 m7 sure, around 1200$ but I'm willing to discuss with anyone who is interested.

Have no clue what "programming" school means, but unless you are only working with one of M$ environments that are basically exclusive to their OS or Apple's (can't remember its name now) there's only a couple of reasons to upgrade. (Actually following comments also apply to either environment.)
First more screen real estate. Second, processor speed for faster compile. (RAM can often be critical also.) If you're starting to write bigger, faster, more demanding code then this can be an issue.
Are you forced to use a laptop, like getting back and forth to class? Any well equipped iMac will outperform any laptop. Fact of life. Doubt it will ever change.
If you have to go to a laptop for above reason, then - if you can afford it - get the biggest meanest MBpro you can get your hands on. Again, speed and view.
The 12" is a sweet little machine. FWIW I've done Linux compiles from the command line on my little 11" Air. Not very fast. Much better from the desktop.
So one man's experience/opinion. Make sure on the laptop thing before buying in.

(Price seem slightly high, but certainly in the reasonable realm.
