I just got the lens and thought I would show two of my earliest images showing first the reason I got this particular 35: the close focusing combined with pleasing bokeh. The second image shows the reason I wanted a 35 at all: for street shooting.

Thank you, saaber! Or, should I thank Tamron? I did not know what to expect from what was a basic close shooting set up, a technique that is standard operating procedure for me. I did not know what I had until I got home to my computer and uploaded it. Needless to say, I am very pleased with this lens. Nice to see performance that exceeds expectations.

How does this lens compared to 35 1.4 Sigma Art?

@saaber1 did you do something specific to trigger those "maple leaf" like bokeh effects, or was that just something that happened naturally? They look pretty neat.

@above, I only know how I did once. I printed some wingdings and cut out the pattern from a piece of black paper that I put inside the UV filter

Two issues I have noticed with the 35 1.8 vc so far. One, ca's can be quite noticeable in high contrast edges. Two, there can be some obvious green flare with the sun bright but off camera. The ca's have been correctible so far but the green flare is more of a nuisance. I will need to be aware of the possibility of strong flare residue in my future sessions with this lens. You can also see some green fringing in the maple leaf bokeh posted above.

Update: What a doofus! I took a series of pics with this and another lens. Ignore the above negatives. Apologies to Tamron (although the other lens was also a Tamron).

Hi Jason, It is a top secret high-tech Bokeh filter. Actually I saw this on one of Christopher Frost's youtube videos.
All you have to do is cut out a circle of black construction paper to roughly the same size as the lens's filter size. Then cut some type of shape in the center of the paper, such as a star, or x, or any shape really. Then set the paper where a filter normally goes (don't worry about getting it perfectly round or perfect fit). Then just make sure you have some lights or bright spots in the background when shooting.

I tried green paper just for fun also but no-go with green. It would be cool to shoot Christmas lights (or maybe August eclipse?) with one of these "filters" on.

FYI I wouldn't read much into those pics FWIW. The construction paper "filter" was blocking about 60-70% of the front of the lens so there should be all kinds of weird effects (intended and otherwise) going on. Cheers!

Cool poppy shot. Is the vignetting added or no? The vignetting works here IMO because it gives sort of a tunnel view affect (not a reference to Ansel Adams's "tunnel view" photo). The Zeiss classic lenses all have very dramatic vignetting wide open and the rendering and vignetting of this shot reminds me a lot of the Zeiss 25mm f/2 in particular.

Looks like a nice lens, I am curious to see some portraits shot with it, 35mm is missing out of my lenses lineup ;-)

Giovanni, I rarely use this focal length for portraits but here is a random one with this lens. Sorry can't post at full res as FM only allows 1.4MB files. Thanks!

Nothing special, just a few quick snaps of my kids with the Tamron 35/1.8. I like the lens, and there is one listed on the buy & sell forum right now in what is described as like new condition at $325 (not my listing). I picked up mine used locally for $425 (bummer) else I'd buy it.
