I want a carbon fiber tripod. Budget for legs only is $300. Longest lens is 70-200 paired with 6D so load capacity isn't a huge issue. It will be used a lot for real estate so head will be 410 junior. Not planning on being in water or harsh climates. I want as tall as money allows. Recommendations?

Your budget for CF is low and will determine your choices. Best to search B&H or Adorama based on price to see your choices. Some in our price range will be under-sized. For the money, and for real estate (I assume minimal walking) I think an aluminum tripod would suffice.

+1. An aluminum Manfrotto would probably be fine.

You could go new aluminium, or used carbon fiber.

Yes, something like the Manfrotto aluminum tripod - or a used Bogen. I would put the money into the tripod head.

I have a heavy duty aluminum tripod with pistol grip. Never had a carbon fiber and not ready to drop a grand on a set of legs yet.

Carbon legs at what you've budgeted will likely be used (from the boards here, or the used dept. of one of the major online retailers), or one of the Far East brands. Of those, the only one I've ever seen in person is the one in the link below. A local guy who enjoys landscape and wildlife photography has been using his for about a year I think. I know for a fact he doesn't baby it. Other than that, I have no real knowledge about long term reliability.

Good luck!

I'll have a Gitzo CF model for sale in a few days...price is over your range because it includes a leveling base....of which you could always sell as soon as you buy it...

otherwise, I do know where a couple of pretty decent CF chinese branded tripods are on sale for less than your price limit....but it's doubtful you'd even take the time to look these up (not many take another's suggestions very seriously it seems). So I won't waste anyone's time in that regard

It's $375, but a nice tripod. We use one at work. And it comes with spikes, tool kit and carrying case.

Hmm... a simple visit to B&H's site selecting a filter for carbon (there is also one for weight) and sorting on price will present you with choices to consider. Really not too difficult

Really? Did you read my post to the end where I said recommendations? I am well aware how to filter a search and have done that. What I found was quite a few choices so I wanted to ask for recommendations. I appreciate your input though.

I don't own a carbon fiber tripod, but if I was looking for one in your price range, I would look at the Induro and Feisol brands.
I've heard nothing but good things about those brands.

I bought a Benro TMA48CLB4 Series 4 Mach3 Carbon Fiber Tripod with B4 Ball Head for $350. I believe it can be bought without the ball head. The B4 ball head is $160 separately. This item is no longer available but there are comparable models available that would fit your price point. Benro is the same company as Induro. You can get a fabulous close up view of it on B&H's website, really nice close ups.

This tripod is a great one as far as I'm concerned. It supports 44.1 lbs! It is huge, light, and steady. It has the 9x weave, the same as the Induro. The reason I am posting this is to let you know that I can't see anything wrong with my tripod, and the Induro is basically the same thing.

Good luck with your decision.
