There is this: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1455714/0?keyword=tokina#13766206 Tokina AT-X PRO 28-70 f2.6-2.8

These things are supposed to have a bit of magic in them, kind of a cult following. I haven't shot with them first hand, but I've seen image produced with it. Probably the least expensive fast zoom for full frame Nikon worth buying TBH.

I've been able to talk myself out of buying this one for now, but I can't believe it is still listed.

I have no relationship to the buyer or interest in the sale.

The 35-70 is tack-sharp, but flares and ghosts relatively easily.

I've switched to the 24-120 - not as fast, not as sharp, but more versatile.

Its hard to pick a lens when you are on a budget. If I could pick one it would be the 24-70 2.8 but only the Nikon one.....not sure its in the budget. I have the 24-120 (got it with the D750 kit and at $500 extra it was a no brainer). I NEVER reach for the lens bc I heavily favor my 50 and 70-200 BUT I have been forced to grab it on recent occasions bc of versatility and it never lets me down. In fact, some of my most recent favorite pics are with that 24-120 VR4. Def worth the 500$ I spent on it.

I had both the 24-85 adn the 24-120mm, the extra zoom is nice, but that lens is not worth a grand new or whatever they charge for it these days. The 24-85 performed pretty much the same for me just less zoom , if you can find one for cheap I would go with that

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 has always been an excellent lens and a new copy sells for $500. Otherwise I would buy a used 24-70mm f/2.8.

The Nikon 24-120mm is not a bad lens but it is nowhere near as sharp as the 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, but then the former is made for hobbyists and the latter is made for professional use.

Tamron 28-75 is a great all round work horse. Fairly sharp, nice and compact, lightish for what it is, and a great bargain used. Shot weddings for years with this.

+1. I got a used one here for $170. One of the best bargains I've ever got. You can spend the rest on a 1.8g prime

Am I the only one still using the old 28-105 AF-D? Yes I like the idea of VR 24-120 but I like the small size & weight of the AF-D. I had the 24-85 VR at one time too, it's nice & small.

I have the 35-70mm f2.8 and think its a cracking lens - pin sharp

But, my everyday work lens is the 28-300mm. This lens makes me the most money

Did he pick his lens?

Oddball suggestion here!

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/camera-lenses/af-s-micro-nikkor-60mm-f%252f2.8g-ed.html

AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm

It's pretty much normal FOV.

It focuses close.

It's tack sharp.

I saw grandkids up thread.

This means two things to me (although I don't have any)

1. Portraits
2. A person who has grandkids likely wants to take pictures of small things, like stuff grandkids make or coin collections or pins or the wife's figurine things or stuff like that. Or pictures of the kid stuff that kids do, without like bending over to see what they got in their hand to show you or random stuff. (??)

Hey, just throwing some new ideas at ya.
