My 105e led to me getting the 58g which led me to get the 28g, which led me to miss my 35art which led me to get the 28 1.4D. It's no sigma art that's for sure. But I think I like it's "character". It's softness makes my shots look like film.

Other things I noticed while incessantly comparing the two lenses.

-28d has a lot less vignetting.
-At the same apertures the 28d seems to have a higher overall t-stop by about 1/2 stop. (At same settings the 28d lets in 1/2 stop more light.)
-At 1.8 and 2.8 sharpness is fairly close to indiscernible from the 28g to my eye.
-28G seems to have a little better microcontrast.

The 28g is a hell of a lens. It's 95% of what the 28D is at 1/3-1/6th the price, 60% the weight. I almost wish the 28g didn't exist because I enjoy using it more because of it's silent motor and light weight. That said, for paid shoots I'll be using the 28d.

Woa, I didn't know you pulled the trigger on a 28 1.4d! Hope to see more images from this thing. I feel like most of the people who own this are more collectors than shooters. Never see them in the wild.

How is the CA wide open?

Ca's are not noticeable or are similar to the 28g so far. Again the 28G is a nice piece of kit.

Having legendary glass on the long and medium end drove me to want to have the best I could on the wide since I was cutting weight and reducing the amount of lenses I shoot with. I saw one on ebay with some rear element scratches that sold for 900ish that I missed the boat on. That frustrated me so I picked up the next cheapest one from precision camera in texas for $1500.00. Any more expensive and I'd say do not buy it. And it's really only a $900 performer I think in the end. It's unique piece that forces a certain look so I'll go with it for a while. Plus I like the idea of a Noct relative in my bag.

There will be more posts, hoping to see some other shooters with it though too.

Not to get too far off topic, but I've been using the 85mm f/1.4d & 35mm f/2 a lot, but recently added the 28mm f/1.8g to have something a little wider. I'm really digging the 85/28 together so far. The 85 1.4d is a special lens, and it looks like the 28 1.4d might have some of that DNA as well.

Great shot. The 28 1.4D has a very distinct rendering which is totally different from the 28 1.8G. There's not a lot of people who own this lens due to its rarity, and it's always a treat everytime I see a photo shot with it.

The 28D is a highly versatile lens. Wide open, it's a street photography dream lens that let one shoot basically from dawn to dusk (anything above 1/30sec should give you a shake-free shot). Stepping down, it still offers enough resolution power for a good landscape shot.

I haven't used my 28/1.4D much the last few years but I think it pairs up nicely with the 200/2G, 105/1.4E & 58/1.4G. Here are some typical shots I took with the lens a few years ago:

I took the 28/1.4D yesterday to the Caffè Commercio in Valdobbiadene for a glass of Prosecco...

I'm on the fence again about this lens after watching more shots come out of the 28 1.8g thread.

Y Knot?

You can definitely see the cyan leaning disposition of this lens in the night shots.

It was the only lens I brought to Argentina with during a recent trip. It's an amazing streetphoto lens!

Uhm, thread title says 28/1.4D image thread, and that's an image of the 28/1.4D

I used a friends 28/1.4D a few years back and really loved it. It's been something I've been tempted to add to my bag for ages, especially now that the 58G has become an easy all-time fav. I think they'd be perfect compliments. I have the 28/1.8G and it's really tough to complain about it, but a little wider aperture is always nice...

Few shots from the 28mm D over the past month of owning it. So far, I really like it.

Great pictures! I haven't used a 28 1.4D, but I own and love the 28 1.4E. How come you went for the D instead of the newer E version?

Thanks! For one, I got the 28mm D for about $1000 cheaper. Secondly, I actually prefer the overall rendering of the D over the newer E mode in certain situations. The D has a more nervous bokeh, almost like a bubble bokeh, that I really like. In some situations, with architecture and straight lines it draws out the background in a very cool painted look. At other times, the bokeh on the D can look downright awful and that is where I think the E does a better job all around with greater sharpness & a bit smoother bokeh.

In certain situations, the 28D can really shine though and I'm still learning the limits of the lens. Who knows, I might end up with the 28E at some point.

Whoa, has the 28D come down that much?
