With the 5D Mark IV out in the field,
the D810 getting long in the tooth,
all the new tech in the D500,
and the fact that I have GAS..........
it's time for a new D810!
The D820?

I have a 5D Mark IV heading my way, courtesy loan from Canon.
It'll be interesting, as shot for a few years and made a lot of coin with a Mark III before shifting over to the D810.
I know that the Mark IV has greatly improved DR.
I have read that it's high iso is more usable than the D810.

What do you want out of a D820?
What do you think Nikon will give us?
When will we get it?
How much will it be?

Here is a list of features I feel that some of you may mention:

-Fix Menu Banks System

-Backlit Buttons

-Built-in GPS

-Built-in, Working WiFi

-Shutter Speeds Faster than 1/8,000
-ISO 32
-> these two allowing us to eliminate the need for filters perhaps?

-Tilting, Touchscreen LCD and Pinch Zoom

-4K Video

-On-Sensor Phase Detection Pixels

-Automated AF Fine Tune / Enhancement, like the D500 but even better please

-Dual XQD or Dual SD Option maybe?

-Enhanced AF System, probably the most important to me

-More MP? Probably not needed, but they'll add 1-3 more I imagine

Thoughts?

I suspect the D810 successor will have D5 guts in a D500ish body with wifi, tilt screen, 1/8000 SS, no AA filter, more MP, and some other stuff. I can't wait

I have a feeling they may be going along the d5 route in regards to media, either or, but not both.

D500 AF system
4k video
Possibly deeper foregrip like the d750
50MP
No GPS or Wifi - I would not want to transfer those 60mb NEF files over wifi
No touchscreen

Lots of threads on this already. The only big unknowns on the D820 (or whatever it's called) will be sensor resolution and FPS. Looking at the D5/D500 we know what AF system, processor, metering system, shutter mechanism, 4K, etc. it's going to get with a fairly high level of certainty. Q1 2017 most likely release.

I suppose the other unknown is tied to what they do with the D750, or if the D750 line becomes the D6XX line and Nikon splits the D8XX line into two bodies (Low ISO high FPS and high resolution). If they choose to make a single camera and keep it as an "all rounder" like the current D810, they can't go too crazy with the MP.

AF bump
better buffer/speed bump
XQD

MP bump? (dang)

Every time I think MP is on a plateau, it ain't.

I also think this is very close to what we'll get. Since the D810 was basically a fixed D800; it will be pretty disappointing after the length of time that has elapsed since D800 release (esp when compared to sony etc.)

The most unknown will be the price tag/hike.

most people are continuing the dialog about the tech specs of the replacement of the d820
what are you adding to the mix here?

That is a good point Dustin.
I do love my D810.

But to be honest, I feel that some improved AF would make it a better all-arounder, similar to the 5DmIII/IV
So I would be ok investing some more money into the new generation.

Yes, overall, D810 gets the job done.

If you used any camera before the D800, you'd know the D800 was a game changer. It changed the way I took pictures. The D810 turned it into a beast of a camera that could tackle any situation.

I'd like even more resolution and Wifi. I hate to run a tether, I won't pay 1000$ for Nikon's solution and Eyefi cards suck for anything larger than Small, highly compressed JPEG's.

I haven't seen any rumours on this camera. After dipping my toes in the Nikon waters with the D500 and enjoying it a lot, I'm excited to see what the D820 brings.

Things I'd like to see:
42MP sensor out of the A7R2.
But with a lower base ISO like the D810
D5 AF system
I'd like either dual SD(UHSII) or dual XQD
I'd like to get at least 8FPS in a DX crop mode, 10 would be excellent

Having not used a D8xx series or really delved into the details of what its good at and what it is missing, I'll leave the rest to others.

XQD - I think for this camera ( used most by Landscape and Wedding Photographers ) this is the worst idea - I really don't need/want to pay extra $300 or much more ( for 3x cheapest 64GB XQD cards - most people even need more cards than that - and this number is just with only 1 XQD + 1 SD slots )

I have some new 64GB CF Cards an can't imagine pay extra $300/600 for new XQD

The D800E are working so well for me that I will totally skip the D810. To get my interest a D820 would have to have at least a 50mp sensor, more DR. Don't care about GPS. Don't care about wifi. If the price of recent Nikon lenses are any clue, a D820 might be touching $4,000. Very, very hard for me to cost-justify that.
