This is part of a crowded colony of Lycoperdon piriforme in woodland at the local university. I think these were all less than 1cm diameter. The scales tend to be lost as the fruiting body grows and matures.
The first image was shot in apeture priority at 1/60 f8. The remainder were in manual mode, 1/250 at f16. All were with twin TTL , compulsory flash and hand-held.
