Want to know how fast is Photoshop on Mac, Intel or AMD. Want to know is various GHz clock would affect much on processing power. What about shared video adapter, amount of memory. Is the price we pay for the premium system comparable to performance of the average system?.

Here are the steps:
This is the test image: http://www.fotografer.net/images/forum/128101.jpg
  1. Left click on the image and save it on your desktop, it is 87.6KB size.
  2. Open image in Photoshop and resize "Width" to 2000px, the "Height" will change automatically, then click "OK".
  3. Click "Filter - Blur - Radial Blur".
  4. Set "Amount" to 100. Then select "Spin" and "Best".
  5. Do not forget again to select "Best", if you choose lower, the processing time will be shorter and you will not believe speedness of your system :D).
  6. Be ready with the stopwatch. Click "OK" along with start button of your stopwatch.
  7. Record the time needed until the progress bar in the lower window of Photoshop disappear.
  8. Report the time in seconds along with a bit information of your system.

Tips:
Closing another programs and let Photoshop the only program running will speed-up processing time considerably.

500 mhz G3 ibook
640 meg of RAM
photoshop CS (OS X jaguar)
Safari open in background (and a wacom tablet)

5 MINUTES 27 seconds
4 MINUTES 35 seconds (no safari, no wacom tablet)

Now that you've pissed your pants laughing consider that this 3 year old budget laptop is still stable running this software even though it barely quailifies to run the OS alone, never mind photoshop! Kudos to Apple, small consolation to me..... till a new G5 dual comes my way!! (I'm saving every penny)

Times are averaged over 5 consecutive runs, and I tossed in the "Good" and "Draft" settings just for laughs.

Best: 35.6 seconds
Good: 4.5 seconds
Draft: 1.7 seconds (the progress bar didn't even bother showing up for this one)

System:
Tyan Tiger K8W dual Opteron motherboard
2 x Opteron 244 CPU's (1.8 GHz)
2 GB DDR400 (PC3200) ECC Registered RAM
Photoshop CS
Windows XP

It might be a bit faster if I shut down all my other apps and rebooted with a clean system, but I'm too lazy to try that.

I'm more eager to know what Mac G5 owners are getting! After all people buy Macs because they're supposed to be better at running Photoshop?

70s/12s/4s
on G4 PB 17" with 14 other applications open
1.5G RAM

but this is hardly any test . real life tests are done on a stardard UAT(User acceptance testing conditions) laid out in a lab

macs architecture is way ahead of the PCs and can handle many open applications all at the same time. Yes but then if you are on a PC you would have to shut open windows, doors ventilator and what not
