p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Cantrell Cliffs

This pano is stitched using 12 images. I will be printing it fairly large, say 24" wide.

1) Looking for critique / improvement suggestions since posting in Landscape did not return much feedback. Particularly regarding the cave walls (hue, lighter, darker, burning dodging, etc.)

2) Can anyone recommend software that smooths out an image when making large prints. I have heard ON1 in not bad, but have never used it.

Thank you
Dale

Shadow detail in the cave walls even in the darkest areas is exceptional while colours and vibrancy throughout are first rate.

What do you mean by smoothing out image?
Perfect Resize is good for uprezzing but I doubt you would need it
What is the image size in pixel dimensions?

Looks great but on my phone currently

I don't think I would change a thing. I really like the tones in this image and as Rick pointed out, your shadows looks very nice. Keep in mind that you'll want to bump up the exposure about 1/2 stop before print or you will possible lose some of your shadow details.

Beautiful shot!

Beautiful image. Maybe it's just me, but I think it needs a bit of gamma boost.

Thanks Rick, I did try to maintain the subtile shadow details, but Ben is making me rethink this.

Hey Scott. Image size is 10300 x 7300. At shows, I have seen very large prints (5ft x 3ft) made from a single digital 35mm that look incredibly sharp, from 6 feet away, with very little grain. I assume there is software that helps create a print that big.

Thanks for the reminder Dave

OK, here is the boosted gamma. I want the walls to look natural, but In a way I like it boosted a bit. Ill brew on it awhile, thanks.

Much improved textures on your edit. Looks even better to me.

I might burn or clone out that bright rock on the right along the path. Didn't notice this the first time.

Much improved for me. A lot of this depends on the viewing conditions. I have a 4K NEC calibrated to 100CD, so that's my viewing conditions.

New folks to the forum need to know that I tend to prefer the Kodachrome look. I should maybe include a warning to that effect

Wondering if you lost some detail in the down size processing.

Tried to bring some texture detail back, so it doesn't look so "blocky" / graphic / flat / soft in the fg/cave region. Of course, working off the posted jpg has significant limitations but hopefully you get the gist. The culprit (imo) being the uber soft / low contrast light may warrant a different sharpening approach than your normal in order to bring out your cave details ... particularly the roof.

Revised the tonal values somewhat also to try and bring us inside a bit more.

From the right viewing distance, I bet this looks like a giant eye @ really cool effect.
