I have little spots, almost evenly spaced inside my lens when I look through it from the camera end. Is this dust, fungus, normal? Is it worth sending in to Canon to have cleaned?

Canon 28-70mm f/2.8
S# UP1010

Thanks,

Buddy

Look's like the lens was in a high humidity environment .

Ask Canon for a quote .

It's definitely not normal. You should send it somewhere for a cleaning cost estimate, but I don't think the 28-70/2.8L is serviced by Canon any more.

Many moons ago I had a FD 200mm f/2.8 that one of the inner elements looked like this as it aged. I thought it was fungus however upon disassembly I discovered it was something going on with the glue in between a pair of cemented elements that I subsequently replaced the pair.

Either way it looks like a trip to the repair shop if it's affecting image quality. I doubt that Canon services this lens anymore.

I still have a 28-70 2.8, Date code UM1207, that's my first & most used EF lens! It's still optically quite good considering some dust accumulation inside.
