Has anyone ever bought any refurbished bodies from Nikon Service department? The Nikon Canada service department in Mississauga has D7100's for $600 CDN which is quite tempting.

Good deals to be had unless you can get an almost new item from the B/S forum for even less and have a longer warranty.

Nikon refurbs have never let me down tho

Good luck

You will think you got a new camera except for the box and the camera will last quite well, possibly longer than factory new.

I have had great luck with refurbished bodies. My D700 came with 6 clicks. My D800 was bought in the fire sale after the left focus issue. It had 30 clicks. Both work perfectly.

I just picked up a refurbished 24-120 f/4 from Adorama for $529 and for an extra $40 or so 5 year warranty. Better deal than buying directly from Nikon.

Do the refurbished cameras come in a different box than original?

Yes, they're grey and say Refurbished Product on them. I have several.

Just be aware in a lot states you have pay tax if you buy refurbs from Nikon, I normally use Adorama, no tax and a generous 30 day return policy.

i've always thought negatively about refurbs. it always struck me as buying someone else's problem. there is some sample variance and i don't want the bad one. plus, a new lens gets a 5 year and a refurb has a 1 year (i believe).
so for 10% off, forgetaboutit

then i had a lens drop and my 80-200 came back better than it was new. hmmm, they did a good job with my D750 warranty repair as well. they ship good stuff and so i think i've changed my mind. saving money is good

I have purchased refurb bodies and lenses from Nikon (via the US website). (I've also gotten other brands on refurb from their online sales or from big camera stores like Adorama.)

I suppose that on rare circumstance, a sale, rebate or kit lens deal could make a new body or lens that is getting long in the tooth cheaper than a factory refurb. That is rare, but I seem to recall it happening before.

I check the Nikon site all the time to see if the Df is going to drop much more on refurb, but they don't seem to be dropping at all

I've bought refurbished before from Nikon. My D300 still works well when I use it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurbished camera again.

I echo everyone else's positive report.... I've gotten refurbs fromAdorama, BH. KEH LN- is another option (and KEH is now issuing a 6 month warranty). Never had a problem. YMMV

The one thought I hate about refurbs is supposedly it's possible they were floor models, yes like the ones in Best Buy that about 300 10 year olds have had their grubby little hands on.

My theory is if you're going to be using a camera everyday, especially professionally, a one year warranty is super strong and worth it over the warranty of a refurb. If you're not using the camera as much I think refurbs are in fact a better deal. Throw in the grey options and choice is even tougher.
