With them gassing canada geese here in NYC to keep them out of jet engines, the brant geese are in much larger numbers

I am not sure what image processing software you are using but a little bit of a dehaze slider (in Lightroom) won't hurt, IMHO, except for the first image as it is clear there. In other words, you could apply that effect to get the condition similar to that of the first image. I hope you don't mind me suggesting this, and I would not do this had you not put down your welcoming suggestion, of course.

I use PS CS5 which dose not have dehaze. I'm thinking that bumping up the vibrance and/or saturation a touch might get the same look.
