I have been shooting this lens now for about 4 years with no issues, then yesterday I shot a gymnastic meet. The lens seem to focus great on still photos but will not continue to track moving gymnastics. I have shot many gym meets before and it worked. Today I put it on my 2nd MK IV and got the grandkids to run toward me, and it did the same thing, so it's not the body. It will hit some then loose lock, I was shooting at 10 FPS. On the ones it missed, the background was sharp, like it was completly off target. I looked at the photos on DPP to see the focus point and it was dead on. The settings are the same on both bodies so I wonder what caused it to quite working, hasn't been dropped or bumped. Any ideas before I send it to CPS.

BTW, I always use BBF

Maybe it is the Ultrasonic motor that is going away , what is the date code on the lens ?

I'm going to guess the Ultrasonic focus motor is failing too. Mine went on my 70-200mm 2.8 IS v1 after about ten years and it was erratic in focus lock. I had it replaced for about $350 Canadian at Sun Camera in Toronto.

This is probably too obvious but is your body stuck in one shot? Did you try a different one?

I apologise, I didn't read your OP carefully. I should stop doing this stuff on my phone while half asleep. Good luck with sending your lens to CPS.

both my 70-200 2.8 v1 and v2 required electronic replacements upon above described issues by OP w\i 3 years use.....I use them weekly near year-round with 2-3 k per session being shot on equine stuff.......ultrasonic motor or IS components were replaced.......about $275-350 by CPS with applicable discount

UA code means the Lens was made in 2012 at the Utsunomiya, Japan factory.
